Default What war movies do you watch during Memorial Day weekend?

Every Memorial Day weekend, I try and watch these four flicks,
from my Blu-ray collection...

Pearl Harbor
Saving Private Ryan
Apocalypse Now Redux
Black Hawk Down

All four films are blessed with "reference quality" lossless audio.

Jean-Pierre Melville's Army of Shadows is my favorite war movie. It's a French film about the Resistance in WWII, but it still applies well to Memorial Day on our shores.

Terrence Malick's The Thin Red Line is another one that I hold in high regard. It's a beautiful and majestic film.

One also cannot go wrong with...
Casablanca
The Great Escape
A Man Escaped
Rescue Dawn

I hope that all of you have a happy Memorial Day Weekend, and that all of you take some time to reflect on the holiday in whatever way that you choose.

But wouldn't watching them on BD provide better picture and audio quality then cable?

You're right, but sometimes when I'm flipping through channels and see it on I'll just leave it and watch it that way.

Americans GI's fought and died in two wars (Korea and Vietnam) in an effort to contain Communist aggression. What do you think?

So? Perhaps it's a U.S. holiday but you can still participate. Watch Passchendaele.

Memorial Day is just NOT one of your "movie" holidays like Halloween, Christmas or Thanksgiving. (Except in the theaters, of course.)
And anyone who ever told you it was, was likely a local station or Turner cable channel that wanted to show The Longest Day and Tora Tora Tora back to back, so they could have eight hours of already-set programming with most of the station employees taking the Monday off....You DID notice that that's why "movie marathons" always took place on three-day weekends, didn't you?

Yeah, I'm sure the workload at TBS is much heavier on a normal Monday.

Those Friends and King of Queens episodes don't just rotate themselves.

Same here. I've never went out of my way to watch a war film on Memorial Day.

I don't own many War Movies outside of Glory atm. May go up to the library tomorrow to check out Apocalypse Now and Saving Private Ryan.
