I honestly didn't know M. Night Shyamalan directed this. They've kept that quiet!

^^^ This.

From the trailers, it has potential.
I'll probably pick this up BUT I do hope this doesn't start a Jaden/Will Son/Father trend.

Even if they work well together, I think it's a bit lazy, non?

Hopefully it won't be the case of Will Smith and his Mini-Me running around for two hours. I enjoyed The Karate Kid but a lot of the times he was just trying to be Fresh Prince instead of the character he was supposed to be. When he wasn't doing that he was pretty good.

This might be complete crap, but I read the other day that Will was considering emancipating Jaden from the family, so maybe it won't be a trend.

Problem is, given that nearly all the films m.night does have -for me- predictable "twists" , I'm pretty certain I can guess the one in this without watching it.

This is sad. I love movies like this but I keep hearing how bad a turkey this is. So sad.

^^ This lol. He used to be one of my favourite directors but after his interpretation of Avatar: The Last Airbender, I dread anything he might make now!

Here is a quote from Scott Wilkinson of AVS regarding After Earth

"As for the movie itself, I thought it was pretty lame, though I won't give any spoiler details here. At least it's mercifully short at 100 minutes."

I saw this at the cinema, and let's just say I won't be buying!! Which is a shame as I like both Will Smith and M. Night Shyamalan. But there's so much good stuff out there worth my money, that I will watch again.

Rented it because I had heard how bad it was. In fact, I wasn't even going to rent until my wife said that she would like to see it.

I rented it and even enjoyed the movie. So much so, I figured I would like to see it again.

I purchased a unused Blu-ray with art and cover (no DVD, no Ultraviolet) for $11.95 shipped. Can't go wrong with the price.

i watched it last night and enjoyed it. i have to partly agree with the bad reviews in that the acting is pretty weak in places but i enjoyed the story and message.
