Default Follow That Bird

One film from my childhood that's on DVD that I'd love to see released on Blu-ray is "Sesame Street Presents Follow That Bird (1985). Is anyone else a fan of this film?

Yeah, absolutely I am. I think it holds its own with the other Muppet movies made during Jim Henson's lifetime.

It's frustrating that there's no Blu-ray, or an HD transfer at all. Nothing on iTunes, Amazon, etc.

I wonder though... might this be something Warner Archive would consider releasing?

Someone should remind them this title is in their catalogue and that next year is the show's 50th anniversary, hint-hint

Didn't Shout Factory make a deal last year or earlier this year with whoever it is that owns Sesame Street?

I would assume that said deal probably includes the two theatrical movies.

Warner Bros owns their own catalogue. Shout Factory only got the direct-to-video content and TV episodes.

So, Starz says it's getting Follow That Bird in HD on January 23rd. (link)

This is encouraging since none of the other online streaming versions (iTunes, Amazon, etc) have it in HD.

It's already available on the Starz streaming service in the U.S. and looks gorgeous. I don't why Warner won't dump the HD version on a blu-ray or make it available to buy digitally.

I'm glad to hear you have Starz MOVIEPLEX On Demand. I only have regular Starz. I'll take some HD screenshots in a couple weeks when it becomes available.

Please stop spamming this thread with off-topic posts. There's plenty of room on the forum to create an Elmo in Grouchland thread.

Back on topic....

Here's the link Warner Archives uses for titles people can suggest they release:

The show's 50th anniversary is really gearing up by now. This would be the year to release Follow that Bird on Blu-ray, Warner Bros.

Also, Warner Bros. is doing a Sesame Street movie in 2021. If we don't see a blu-ray for the 50th, we'll almost certainly see it as a tie-in for that.

There appears to be an HD version of Follow That Bird on Swedish iTunes.

https://itunes.apple.com/no/movie/se...rd/id616574513

Specifies a 1080p download. I can't buy it with my US iTunes account and the US store only has SD.

I managed to find an HD copy. I'm not sure if it's the same as the one on Swedish iTunes though.

It doesn't appear to be true HD, but it's better than the DVD.

If you live in the U.S., you can finally buy the HD version but you will need to do it through Vudu's Disc To Digital service:
https://www.vudu.com/content/in_home...o_digital.html

Here's how to do it:
1) Get the Follow That Bird DVD (UPC 883929064076).
2) Log into Vudu, go to My Vudu, select Disc To Digital, and take a picture of the DVD barcode.
3) It will give you the option to buy the HDX version for $5.
4) You will need to connect your Vudu account to Movies Anywhere if you haven't already.
5) Buy the HDX version for $5.
6) It will then show up in HD in Vudu and Movies Anywhere.

I did a quick comparison between the two and the Movies Anywhere HD encode is better than Vudu's. This is the only way to own it in HD in the U.S. because all of the U.S. digital retailers currently only offer it in SD (although it is available in HD on Starz's streaming service).

Wow, didn't notice there was an hdx on Vudu. On the site it is only showing SD quality to purchase. Under the rent tab it says hdx has a Feb 4th date. Wonder if a 35th anniversary blu could be on the way.

That's interesting. I didn't notice HDX under the Rent tab. It's strange that Warner is making the HD version available for rental only in the U.S. (leaving Disc To Digital as the only way to get it in HD).

I'd love a disc release too but this will hold me over until we get it.
