Default Most important element for a Blu-ray system?

Well...what do you think?
Just curious to see what people think

p.s. incase you hadn't realized, that's CPU and graphics card power, as opposed to actually having a CPU or a graphics card

Out of those, the most important and first step would be the drive itself

Of course the drive is important. Otherwise it will not work. However, to obtain a good quality picture, a good quality graphics card will be very important provided the drive could read without dropping bits. I expect all drives would be able to do this if they comply with the specs.

Actually...ALL OF THE ABOVE. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS to run Blu-Ray on your PC...you should make sure you have all those components (upgrades) powerful enough to make it a good experience. A good monitor too!!!

i would say the cpu. in my experience it is essential to have a cpu that is strong enough to render Blu-ray in software, making one independent of a working hardware acceleration and the buggy playback software we are being faced with.

(meaning there have been many cases of the hardware accel. not working properly or being broken after updates, so you are f'd without a strong enough cpu.

Also even with working hardware accel. you will not have to depend on software like PowerDVD, that just doesn't work for some discs. In that case you might want to "circumvent" PowerDVD for playback, but might lose the option for hardware accel. with the alternative sw player.)

RAM is unimportant, i have 1GB and never had any trouble caused by that.

Graphics Card, well that is rather philosophical. I have a low end nVidia card and my pq is equal to my standalone player. Others like to have the hardware accel. features or swear other brands have better pq. I haven't tested that.

Blu-Ray Drive, apart from the fact that you need one (duh!) some people might want to keep in mind, that the reading speed could be important for other purposes than playback (cryptic enough? )

Besides the obvious BD drive, I would say its more a combination of things.
Having a dual or quad core CPU and only 512MB ram is not going to cut it...

A screen would be good to output too.

The drive itself, and a hell of a nice screen and set of speakers to output to. Can't forget the receiver either.
