I know this topic is always being talked about however some say this and others say that. Would just like to clarify.
I have a digital coaxial and standard rca jacks that are going to my BR back to the receiver. Am I better to use the two rca's and set to bitstream and always use 5.1 for both digital coaxial or rca's? I am trying to make it as simple as possible. I would just like to know what to set the Samsung 1400 on (pcm or bitstream) and always use standard 5.1 or dts? Can someone be kind enough to tell me what route to go with? I do notice that when I have my 2 rca cables in and select looseless audio it sounds much louder and clearer than 5.1 but not sure if I am getting the real sound effects if I just turn it up more using straight 5.1. Any help? thanks Corey |

I have a receiver that has DTS and DD built in with a dvd player inside. I live in an apartment so I couldnt really go out and get what I really want. It is a phillips. Very nice speakers and sound though. I also know that soon they will be making a all in one receiver that supports all these formats here soon.
Its only a matter a time until everything will be put into a receiver with a player with it, so I am not sure what step I am going to take in the future but as for right now what do you recommend? |

yea which is fine with me. at one point i thought Hi=Fi was the best to come out then moved on to dolby pro logic then 5.1 now we have HD.
It just never stops but I love the game. By any chance do you know of a all in one unit receiver/speakers that will play all these HD formats? With were I live it would be something that I would be sold on in a heartbeat until I get a home. I know in time there will be plenty but just wondering if there are any of these out that you can buy now in order to play it all from your BR to your receiver to encode all these formats? Any suggestions? |

Onkyo HT-SR908 ($840) Its an Onkyo 605 Receiver with onkyo brand speakers included. But in reality you could just buy the Onkyo 605 ($425) seperately with different brand some speakers. ($240) |

thanks for the response and I see what you are saying, just get a really good receiver and build around that. I am on a tight budget and I know the speakers that come in the box arent all that but in a small apartment they actually sound to my surprise relatively well. To most of you, you might laugh. I was the same way because before HD even came out I had the bose acoustimass with a jbl running with a sony 5.1 receiver. I remember paying 500 for the dvd and again this was when it first came out and it was incredible. Unfortunately I had to get rid of them on ebay because I took a trip and ran into some financial problems but it was the worst mistake in my life getting rid of them speakers. I know alot hate bose but with them cubes tweaked and the extra sub made me more than satisfied and also kept my neighbors happy.
One thing that I have noticed is the player/receiver I have sound terrific playing 5.1 on the built in upconveter and the BR Samsung does not sound as good in 5.1. When i put it on any other option such as uncompressed or Tru i notice a significant amount of volume increase. Does anyone know why it would sound better on the dvd player playing 5.1 than it would on the BR playing 5.1? Both are hooked up digital. I notice surround effects much more clearer than on the BR but again when i put it on anything but 5.1 on BR it sounds better than 5.1. I thought that with my setup of just having a dts and DD decoder I do not even get any benefit of the HD audio. Am i way of course here? Again, I am just going on what I read and it seems everyone has a different opinion. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. thanks Corey |
