United Kingdom Convoy (Sam Peckinpah)

Convoy Blu-ray REVIEW

NEWS/TRAILER
https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=11317

Quote:
StudioCanal has revealed that it plans to release on Blu-ray director Sam Peckinpah's Convoy (1978), starring Kris Kristofferson, Ali MacGraw, Burt Young, and Ernest Borgnine. The preliminary release date set by the studio is September 30th.

Sam Peckinpah's classic road-movie based around the hit song by C.W. McCall. Long-distance trucker Rubber Duck (Kristofferson) is on the run from corrupt sheriff Lyle Wallace (Borgnine). He makes a call on his CB radio asking for assistance from other truckers, many of whom have also fallen foul of Wallace in the past. What follows is a massive truckers' convoy, plenty of CB banter, and a whole lot of smashed-up police cars.

But will it have the Sam Peckinpah cameo that was cut from their video release?

I'll be waiting to see if it has the three minutes of Chuck Arnoldi interviews that were missing from all the print used for most of the DVD editions. Japan, Germany, Holland and Australia had uncut DVDs

I converted my father to blu-ray and a couple months ago he asked me if Convoy was on BD and I told him unfortunately it wasn't. Then it was announced for Germany and that was exciting to be able to get it for him for christmas, but then the English release was announced. Even better. I'm sure they'll both be the same but he's the type who likes to read/look at the back cover. The movie looks awful to me but he loves it (being a truck driver) so this'll bring a smile to his face.

I first thought this was coming out in North America. Guess not. Looks like Germany and the UK get all American movies on blu before America gets them. I guess I should move to the UK if I ever want to get any movie I like on blu-ray.

^Uncut! Sold!

Also, on the Convoy forum on IMDB, a user says they worked on new features, 90 minutes worth. The biggest feature (about 70 minutes) includes all cast members (who are still alive) giving new interviews about how troubled the production really was. Both the UK and German blu-rays are identical (except artwork and possible dubbing or subtitles).

However, no deleted scenes from the notorious 3 hour workprint has been found. So, we won't be seeing any deleted scenes.

Update:
Heres what I can find on features:

Passion & Poetry - Sams Trucker Movie (70 minute feature featuring the 3 main actors and producer Michael Deeley)
Featurettes
More Production Stills
Trucker Notes From Norway
US Radio Spots
US TV Spot

This lower-tier Peckinpah, but that line-up sounds promising, considering he tried very hard to get fired from that film and Micheal Deeley in particular is known for being pretty outspoken.

Sounds like the Studio Canal UK release is the one to get if you are region free and can live without the extra audio commentary on the Kino.

.....and the documentary in HD which is SD on the UK disc.
If you can live without all the extras the SC version is on a Dutch disc around half the price of the UK one

The transfer on the SC version is leaps and bounds better than the US release, quite surprised flipping between them

Just got around to watching the Studio Canal release of this disc, has anybody reported trouble with this disc? I cannot get any thing other than the feature to play on my modified Sony player.

Does your equipment support 50Hz playback?

Do you know if it supports 1080i50 playback?

The whole chain of equipment must support 1080i50, even if your player does but say your display doesn't, it will not playback unless the player can convert 1080i50 to 1080i60, or your display can support 1080i50. If you have a receiver in between, that also needs to support 1080i50 pass through.

Think I found the problem, does anyone know if the special feature are starad def? My player is acting up and won't play pal discs so I will have to flash it and see if this works.
