Quote:
A subjective documentary that explores the numerous theories about the hidden meanings within Stanley Kubrick's film The Shining (1980). The film may be over 30 years old but it continues to inspire debate, speculation, and mystery. Five very different points of view are illuminated through voice over, film clips, animation and dramatic reenactments. Together they'll draw the audience into a new maze, one with endless detours and dead ends, many ways in, but no way out.

People seem to either love it or hate it. As a big fan of The Shining, I've been curious about seeing it since I first heard about it, but I'm sure I'll be doing plenty of throughout.

I did do plenty of throughout but I still thoroughly enjoyed myself with this film. I was probably just so happy that people continue to debate and discuss a film in such detail after so many years. It shows that The Shining still has plenty of mystery and power in it's hallways.

I wish it was not marketed as the story behind the shining or the making of the shining or such.
It was all about weird gonzo nutters and their conspiracy theories.
Hugely disappointed

I watched it and though some of the things make sense but many coincidences were very forced and I laughed when they were trying their best to link it with shinning lol.

This is basically the Kubrick filmic version of those people that post "Illuminati!" on nearly every music video that haves triangles. It starts being funny and then it's just annoying and ridiculous.

One of the worst movies I've seen in quite a while. Just awful.

I'm guessing the more you like Kubrick, the less you'll like this doc?

That might be a fair assessment. It just played out in my opinion as nothing more than mental masturbation. Lots of clips from completely unrelated films edited together with Shining footage as a series of narrators detail their batsh-- crazy "readings" of the movie. Most every "theory" is really, really reaching. Without giving too much away, if I remember correctly, the 2 I most remember thinking were ridiculous were the Indian genocide reading and the Minotaur reading.

It's absolute rubbish imho.

I agree. Not only was much of it pretty absurd, but the filmmaking itself was pretty shoddy. Why did none of the contributors appear onscreen? Were they too embarrassed by their far-fetched assumptions? Without "interview" footage, the whole thing was just clip after clip, and most of them reused numerous times.

Just a really silly movie. No chance I will ever pick this up, or even watch it again.

I don't necessarily agree. The Shining is one of my favorite movies and Stanley Kubrick is one of my favorite filmmakers, yet I enjoyed Room 237. Yeah it's a lot of nonsense from people overthinking and overanalysing the film, but still it was well put together, mentally stimulating and entertaining.

I'm not entirely sure about that. Basically, if you ever have been around extremely stoned individuals bulls--tting about conspiracy theories for two hours (while you are completely sober and generally annoyed with stoner conspiracy theorists), that's what this movie is.

I was excited about seeing it before it went On Demand as I'm a big fan of "The Shining." But it just became a tedious bore after the first half hour or so. There's an individual on YouTube that has posted clips dissecting the movie and discussing some of the actual mysteries about the production of it that's much more entertaining in my opinion.

LOL. Yeah, that's exactly what it is. Absurd stoner theories. But I still found it interesting, even though I believe none of it.

Isn't the "Minotaur" just a picture of a man skiing?

It's funny how some theories and readings can be completely unraveled just by one or two simple facts.
