"There were rumors afloat that the set containing Seasons 7, 8 and 9 (the "Lucy-Desi" hour shows) would also be remastered, but that is not the case. CBS hopes to do a deluxe edition of this set -- perhaps on Blu-ray -- sometime in 2013, and the shows will be remastered for that."

On a positive note, the series is going to Blu Ray, which I think is
terrific (oddly, several on this board said it would never go Blu Ray.
If TWILGIHT ZONE is Blu Ray, ILL will definitely go this route).

But will CBS/Paramount spend the money to truly restore the picture
for this? I do know that Hitchcock's 1944 film "Lifeboat" recently
went Blu Ray - without any restoration. Critics says the picture IS
sharper, but so is some of the grain. ILL looks great beginning in
the second year, but much of the first season on the current DVDs is
very grainy and blemished (the opening scene of "The Adagio" comes
to mind).

Hopefully, a true restoration will take place.

I would get this day one, been holding off on the DVDs hoping one day I Love Lucy would see blu ray...don't want color episodes, original b&w only!!!

I love this show enough to potentially double dip, but B&W only - I personally would not be swayed by color.

And I think I would wait to read reviews of the PQ, because unless they managed to do a complete 4K restoration from previously inaccessible negatives that dramatically changes the previous restoration work (which was incredible), there is no reason to upgrade these for minimal effect.

Sometimes you just have to realize the limitations of the source materials. I don't know whether Lucy was shot on film or early video, but there honestly might be not much more upgrading they can do.

Though, that being said, if they DO put the time and effort into a monumental leap forward in quality, I am IN.

Andy Griffith is the old show I want the most now that TZ and Trek are out.
M*A*S*H and Northern Exposure would be the other two I would really like to see go blu.

MASH would be awesome. Mary Tyler Moore and Bob Newhart, too, but I'd just like to get the last two seasons of Bob Newhart on DVD before I start setting my hopes too high.

Don't get too excited, folks. That rumor was posted September 10, 2012, and it's purely speculation. There hasn't been any official information about a Blu Ray release.

Lucy was shot on 35mm b&w film, It was also the first TV show to use a three camera set-up. This was a Desi idea. After that alot of shows went with a three camera set-up. Lucy show would come out very sharp with a 4k scan.

Will buy for my hubby, but only in black and white as he loves the show and I have talked him into holding off on the dvds like I have with Seinfeld and M*A*S*H.

This is exactly why I've been hesitant to pick up older shows like this in hopes that a Blu-ray release is near. Aside from "The Twilight Zone", "I Love Lucy" and "The Honeymooners" have always struck me as the next logical choices. Hopefully, both make there way to the format sooner rather than later.

Correct. I LOVE LUCY looks phenomenal on DVD, so I'm sure it will look beyond phenomenal on Blu-ray.
