Thumbs up suggestion for a "news forum"

all news from the homepage can be posted in this "news forum" by the bearer of the news so that we reduce the amount of threads about announcements in the blu-ray movies/releases forum

for example, if top gun is announced for blu, it can be posted on the homepage by lets say josh...then josh will start a thread in the "news forum" and people can all go there to discuss it rather then having 30 ppl start new threads and talk about it. so in all those threads we dont need ppl re-directing people to a "main thread"

in addition, it will keep people well informed and provide an easy location if they are off the forums for a couple of days to receive not only news but feedback from everyone else

it will also allow new members to search through past threads in this forum so they do not ask questions about movies that have already been released/havn't been released

just a suggestion...you won't hurt my feelings if you think it is dumb

It's not that the suggestion is dumb (it's not), it's just that all of us are. The board gets tons of repeat threads no matter how much Mods try to steer via sticky's, or posters try with their "Official: When is xxx coming to blu? thread". For some reason people just post the same thing over and over and over and over...

In terms of allowing new members search.... most don't

Good though, but there are some issues to consider. Josh does a great job with the news, but Josh cannot be monitoring news 24/7. In a lot of instances, forum members will post news that they find in other websites hours before the "News Section" is updated. In fact, Josh has used the information posted by members to update the "News Section". Just too much work for Josh.

i understand your point slec...because if they were truly willing to search before starting a new thread, they would have done so already regardless of a "news forum" to look to and we wouldn't have so many repeat threads as is

interesting, i never looked at it from that point of view actually

i know, but if someone has news (anyone, not just josh) couldnt they start the thread...and if someone were to come across that news as well and wanted to start their own they could easily look at this news forum and see it was there?

a lot of time there are so many threads that people don't even see that what they are posting has already been posted

its kind of like organizing to achieve minimizing...it will make it more visible

...hope that made sense

We are all part of the problem... Some posters want to be the first to put something up so they rush out a link or something, and then 10 other people put them up in other places (again trying to be first), and voila... 11 threads on the same thing.

Also, members can comment in the news topic posted by Josh... others can add or remove based on validity..

Wait, are you talking about a "breaking news" section? much like we have a movies section, receiver section etc... that's a whole different ballgame there..

yes, thats exactly what im referring to...

that way news isnt lost among 100 other threads and can be seen so others dont post the same stuff "trying to be first" because they would have to post it there anyway, so they would be forced to see it

what did you guys think i meant? lol

To me it initially looked like you wanted a dedicated thread to everything Josh puts up... with the comment section a part of the new section, i didn't see th relevance...

But a Breaking news section under the Discussion Forum might be worthwhile... Well if the blu-ray.com guys think so that is . Something tells me a bunch of threads would still show up in the movies section.. It's a good idea though. I'm onboard now
