Default Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag

I'll update the OP accordingly, but for you interested in this. Amazon have the fantastic Skull Edition on offer for pre-order for only £55

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00CM1KWO4/

Just make sure you actually click on the PS4 tab and then onto the Skull Edition sub tab. In addition, Amazon have exclusive DLC they're offering on top of all pre-orders.

I tried to pre-order this for the PS4 at Gamestop the other day and they wouldn't let me...

Is Assassins Creed fun? I was looking into it and was very intrigued. Sounds like it could be really good. Is it open world exploration? It sounded like it is. What kind of hooked me is when the narrator of the trailer says. "Explore uncharted islands all harboring mysteries of their own." Then it shows the main character in a beautiful looking jungle forest, and then attacking some soldiers that seem to be in the process of digging a hole in the ground.

The idea of having my own pirate ship to go exploring this world with sounds like a great time. And I'd like a good adventure game to play upon launch.

Thanks for starting the thread. I was wondering why there wasn't one here for it yet.

Think of it like a GTA game but with Assassins and you're not far off. These games have got better with time. Assassins Creed one had a LOT of complaints regarding how repetitive it was and I was amazed with how much they changed the formula for Assassins Creed II. That was very enjoyable to play. The rest, brotherhood and revelations apparently weren't as much a revolution to the formula and nice enough to play.

Assassins Creed 3 was quite good and if they can do the same again as the numbered entries, then they're onto a winner.

You can explore or do missions, it's up to you because it's a sandbox style game BUT I think I do remember certain parts of the gameworld not being available in AC3 because you haven't got enough 'sync' with the gameworld. That is to say that you haven't received the ancesters memories about such areas at that point in the game and have to play missions to progress a bit.

I fully expect people to play missions first and then go off for the side quests with the ships etc. tbh.

If you want the UK edition, they'll knock the 20% off which is UK tax and probably just charge shipping, but I think the US edition might be cheaper anyways

Overall though, i'd say definitely to give these games a go

Just found this trailer. Black Beard is telling a story about the lead character. Edward something I believe his name is. Black Beard says. "He knows his way around every crack and crevice of these islands." Then it shows a naked girl on a bed partially covered by a sheet ha ha ha. Couldn't believe that. Then on a street he just stabs this guy and takes his girl, lol. Got to love it.

It's on this page.

That's mainly just a CGI trailer. If you check YouTube there's a gameplay focused trailer which shows you diving down to the seal, battling sharks etc. and even fighting Templars on islands and in cities.

It looks quite good, and i'm sure the PS4 graphics will be very good.

yeah, I saw that trailer too. I just came across this one and thought it was pretty funny so thought I'd share. Looking forward to seeing how it looks on PS4. Saw the other video too, where one of the developers claims the biggest difference on the PS4 will be drastically better looking graphics, much more details.

I've only played the first two games, skipped the rest because they were too frequent and similar. Also the mixture of sub-30fps with auto platforming prioritising animation over control responsiveness just made it feel really sluggish and unsatisfying.

So with this being a cross-gen game there's a good chance they may even target 60fps, at 1080p of course. At the very least it should be a stable 30fps.

Sounds like they messed up the pricing which they do on occasion.
Be worthwhile getting this before they fix it

Amazon are usually good with honouring misprices assuming they're not extremely low, but some have speculated they're attempting to get a long list of pre-orders to secure a lot more stock at better pricing. Possible imo. Get 10,000 pre-orders in and negotiate for 50k.

Also, I haven't found issues like Shin Ra has with the games thus far to really detract me and really enjoyed the games apart from the first. The story was good enough, but the gameplay was repetitive as hell. AC2 and 3 were quite enjoyable overall for me.

I don't know, maybe there's not many games that I buy and find really crap cause of reviews telling me that i'd likely enjoy the game based on previous experience

Man this game was the embarrassment of the show. Glitched and froze like 4 times, couldn't even finish it.

Ubi and their next gen glitches lol....At first I thought the stream was stuttering but wow...Of course, that's the risk with live gameplays, not like any other new machine had any live gameplays to show lol...

Lmao, that was one hell of an epic fail!

But ubisoft did it on Sony's conference

I still want to get the game simply because the above link I posted in OP is a great deal for the PS4 version of the game.

Other than the malfunction though, for those of you who played these games, how did this one rate as far as looks and the way the game play appeared? I thought it looked pretty cool. Liked the look of it right from the start. The ship battle did seem a little weird, but too little of it to tell.

I was quite impressed with how much slicker the ground to higher ground travel around the environments seems to have improved, but tbh, i'd really like to see how it reviews like any other games do these days before totally committing.

I know I've pre-ordered the Skull Edition, but I could potentially just trade it in, providing it actually has a 'normal' case whilst also being in a jumbo steelbook. If not, i'll likely keep it anyways. Not a 'bad' game or special edition if it score 7.5 or higher.

Thanks. Well, I'd like a good adventure type game to get on launch day and this seems like the best option. That is if this is even a launch game. It seems like it would be. I liked watch Dogs and want to play it sometime. But that is so modern day. I prefer something more otherworldly. And I much prefer tropical island jungles to city streets.

Why not give AC2 and 3 a go first. I got AC2 in a trade, which I don't usually do. Traded some movies, I think. But I was pleasantly surprised. For me, it's strengths were the stealth missions, the great dungeons that were large puzzles to traverse and the hidden stuff found with eagle eyes that were puzzles in and of themselves. AC Brotherhood was almost like and expansion of AC2. AC3, to me, did not have the feel of AC2 at all, and I while I have finished the game, I have not yet found it within me to go back and get 100%. What I really liked about AC2 was omitted from AC3, and it's one of those games that I found myself being angry while I played more often than having fun. I did not find the marine missions to be that great. They are uncommon in video games, though.

I'm not implying that you will share my opinion, because others obviously found it fantastic, but there is plenty of time to sample it's predecessors before committing to a blind pre-order. I am skipping this one, at least for a while.

Then main reason I don't try one or all of the previous ones is because I don't have the console for it. The only thing I have at the moment is the original Xbox. But I do keep forgetting about the download option on the PS4.

Gaikai will be coming soon and hopefully lets you play all the back releases BUT if you do get a PS3, start off with AC2 imo. Just watch the cutscenes for the first game in a video on youtube to get the story. That game was way too repetitive for me to recommend you actually play through its missions.

2 onwards is when it got good
