Default Profile 1.1 VS. Profile 2.0

Is there any major difference between Profile 1.1 and Profile 2.0? Should I want to get a newer Blu-ray player that is capable of upgrading to profile 2.0 or should I just keep my Sony S300 unit with the profile 1.1?

2.0 is internet connectivity . . . so, if you want to be able to use features that require a web connection, get a 2.0 player. Also useful for firmware updates rather than burning a disc.

There are a lot of threads about this already . . . run a search and you'll find anything you need.

You're S300 is not 1.1. It's 1.0 as it can't play true PIP feature on disc that have them ( Sunshine and Resident Evil 3 as of right now).

Profile 2.0 add downloadable content .... that's all

the S350 that will be released this summer will be profile 1.1 at start and 2.0 upgradable in fall, but if you don't care about Online with movies... you won't miss much..

I am still to see PiP in a movie so 2.0 is still far away as far as practical use for me

Just get a PS3 and you won't have to worry about it.

Or just keep your S300 if you're like me and the movie is all you care about. I bought a Panny BD30 (profile 1.1) mainly because it was available when I was ready to buy a stand-alone player. Honestly, I have the titles that offer PiP, but have yet to use that feature. It annoys me when trying to watch the main feature. I do have a PS3 also though.

Like cajmoyper said, you can't go wrong wth a PS3. It handles all profiles, and the load times will blow you away when compared to the S300

That's the truth. My dad has an S301, and he's gotten so frustrated on the loading times, he's just decided not to watch the movie altogether. But like you said, the truth is, I'll never watch a pip. But the new BD-Live function looks interesting. We'll see about that.
