Australia Paths of Glory and The Killing

I was looking through the pre order list on JB HI FI and i saw that Paths of Glory and The Killing are coming out on July 3. Would it be the same transfer from Criterion? I highly doubt it but i hope so.

Shock is the distributor of those titles. I guess all you can do is find out what other Blu-Rays they have released and check where those transfers are from.. or contact Shock.

I do doubt they would be the same though, just off the top of my head, I can't think of any transfers that are the same as Criterion that have been released here, or even in the UK... comparable, but not the same.

The Killing is a must buy imo and the best film Kubrick directed

Hasnt Shock (or is it Umbrella) released a few other movies that have the same video transfer as the Criterion releases (Blow Out and Solaris come to mind)?

Several international releases have used the same transfer as Criterion. Just recently, the UK version of 12 Angry Men as reviewed and is said to be virtually identical to the Criterion release, with the main difference being slightly better compression on the Criterion version.

The Unforgiven
Exodus

Already have some of the others from other regions but good news for Aussie buyers.

You never know... JB Hi-Fi are listing special features for both Kubrick's, and The Killing apparently also includes Killer's Kiss... I don't imagine there are many HD copies of those flying around. May be wrong, but here's hoping!

Paths of Glory Special Features
Excerpt from a 1966 audio commentary featuring critic Gary Giddens
Television interview from 1979 with star Kirk Douglas
Trailer

The Killing Special Features
Includes Bonus Feature: Stanley Kubrick's 'Killer's Kiss' (67 mins)
Excerpted Interviews With Actor Sterling Hayden From Cinema Cinemas
Trailers

These are both excellent films. I have the Criterion's which look excellent. If the versions released here use transfers similar to the Criterions, these should be presented well and make a good alternative for people who don't have a Region A player.

There have been a few. Umbrella has done it for Blow Out which featured the same transfer as the remastered Criterion transfer.

Agreed - A Night to Remember is another one that got a local release and it's based on the same restoration ITV did and Criterion released.

Any idea if Shock's Hollywood Gold series will include English subtitles?

I see Hitchcock's Lifeboat is coming out there, too. Does anyone know the Region Code for this one? I have the U.K. Region B release already.

Having just bought and checked out The Killing and Paths Of Glory, I can confirm that they are indeed ports of the Criterion Blu-rays. They look and sound wonderful, and are both in widescreen (1:66), with restoration credits after the end titles that say "Criterion 2010". Presumably due to licensing issues/costs, only a couple of the Criterion special features are included with each, but they are arguably the best ones, with The Killing containing Kubrick's Killer's Kiss feature film plus the Sterling Hayden interview, and Paths Of Glory has the Kirk Douglas interview from Parkinson and a short audio interview with Kubrick.

Is Killer's Kiss in 1080p?

Awesome, but instead of LPCM Mono like Criterion, it's DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0?
