"Fast moving, fresh zombies" versus slow and decayed.
Zombies from 28 Days Later and Resident Evil and such don't exactly look like or move like the shuffling hordes of yesteryear either. Not exactly a new development.

Good points. All different ways to interpret zombies in movies.
Not a big deal, but technically the 28 DL/WK series had Ragers (infected, enraged living people). A zombie being a deceased person moving about. I'd like to see a 28 Months Later sequel.

This was done by Prime Focus? Yes, it looks really good for the 3D layers. They did an awesome job with MIB 3's 3D of the live action, which I couldn't believe compared to their prior efforts including Star Wars Episode I. Glad to see they're improving their 3D work.

For Harry Potter DH II's 3D,
[Show spoiler]a good example of great 3D is during the dragon scene, but weak 3D, as in many scenes, in the scene in the beginning with Warrick Davis (little person as a troll) talking in the room to Harry.

World War Z is said to be part of a trilogy from what I read years ago, depending on how it does in theaters. I wonder if it's still planned that way.

Agreed. My only complaint about MI3 3d (and it's more of a nitpick than anything super serious lol) is that the characters look a little to cardboard cutty and that their characters don't have the precision and effort of Stereo D's conversion work in terms of depth spacing nuances in modeling the human face with stereo properly.

You have a good eye. But yes, it's hard to top Stereo D's Jurassic Park and Titanic 3D efforts.

At the end of a TV preview, after Pitt asked "What are they?", the one government guy said something like "We don't know." That was good they added that in, to give it some mystery for those who wonder what this movie is about.

Yes, the 3D is on par with Titanic's 3D. Likely both the best direct conversions of 2D to 3D made so far from the ones I've seen.

That's true. Keep things mysterious for the new audiences who didn't read the book.

For those who read the book World War Z, does the preview look pretty close to the way you pictured it while reading the book?

No.

The book is slow stumbling Zombies and the storyline and characters don't match up at all. It is the book in name only.

I heard they re-shot the entire third act.

So I can't imagine it's very similar to the book if that much had to be changed.

But I've hardly read anything ever, so I can barely comment.

Thanks for the updates Nommag, AmrlKJaneway.
I wish they stuck with the classic, slow zombies. The 3D looks good, so mostly for that reason I'll see it.

Considering the book is a bunch of stories about how different people survived the "war", after seeing the preview, I was wondering what the movie actually had to do with the book. Nothing I have seen seems to remotely resemble any of the stories. Possibly the attack on New York?

What the ****?! What is this, the film equivalent to Daikatana?

I heard about major problems with the production but that is just insane.

Just came back from the screening. It's supposed to be in 3D but the theater had some technical difficulty so only watched in 2D. I did get a nice exclusive 3D glasses though.

I honestly not sure if the 3D will be good for this movie. Would love to hear from you guys later this week if you go.

How did you like the movie DavidGQ?
Sorry to hear about the 3D version not playing.

I'll see this more than likely opening week. The TV spots are hyping it up with lots of "Spectacular" type critic reviews. It will be a challenge going up against Man of Steel only a week after. The 3D does look promising in the trailer.

Fast humans running after you in hordes can be a lot more tense than slow stumbling people, but at the same time, slow ones give you more of an atmosphere of gloom IMO. It's nice when a movie combines the two (as a concession to not having all slow zombies), so not every zombie is a marathon/sprint runner.

I hope it's a good fast zombie epic, so I'll give a try. The 2004 Dawn of the Dead remake surprisingly never followed with a sequel, with their fast running zombies.

Entertainment Tonight:
Had a feature on zombie movies being popular, highlighting Romero's classic Night OTLD, and awesome Dawn of the Dead 78 (with a 3D conversion that never developed to Blu Ray). Also showed Shaun of the Dead and then said, "World War Z may be the most intense of them all" to paraphrase.

The ending sorta quick IMO. You have all this building up and then boom, The End. I feel like there should be more to it and I read they did have issues with the end also.

Here's why I think 3D won't be good for this movie - you have a lot of "running" camera moments. That might not sit well with normal movie goers.

As for Zombies, they are really different from your typical Zombies. They don't eat people in here. They just bite them to spread the virus. So don't expect a typical zombie What I do like about the movie is there are a lot at the edge of seat moments. I feel the Man of Steel movie is too long and this one too short.

Thanks DavidGQ.

Zombies sound a bit like the Ragers from 28 and the Rabid from Quarantine, both of who would bite (or spew infected blood). Kind of like the reports of cats or dogs with rabies, awkwardly approaching a person and biting them then stumbling away, foaming at the mouth. I heard on the news rabies victims don't need to get 30 plus injections into their stomach anymore to cure the rabies in time.

Good point. The competition is stacked against it for sure. Horror fans will likely help out.

Just saw World War Z in 3D today and I thought it was FANTASTIC. Easily one of my favorite zombie movies ever and I thought the 3d was one of the best post conversions I've ever seen! Just phenomenal attention to detail and even with the shaky cam the depth remains strong imo. I couldn't be more pleased right now haha
