Default Examples of best and worst disc designs

My favorite, Japanese Heat:

On their own they don't look that phenomenal, but together they look amazing.

French Reservoir Dogs, love this design:

Troll 2, BD-DVD combo look really nice as well together:

Repo Man - those who don't know the movie will think this is ugly, but those who do will know that it's one of the coolest concepts for a disc cover art ever:

And here's the ugliest disc design that I have EVER seen, hands down. The European release of Philadelphia, on the left:

What THE HELL is this? Feels like I bought some bootleg disc that someone burned in their basement. Actually, that's unfair because empty discs have better design than this. I don't know what they were thinking. Maybe they tried to make it look like the disc has AIDS, in which case they actually did a pretty good job.

If you think Disney's plain blu disc art is ugly what do you guys think of WB Wrath of the Titans, I own the 3 D version and it is fuggly as hell, plain silver with black lettering, I bet I could have done better with a couple of color permanent markers.

Warner, Universal, Paramount, and Summit (Lionsgate) have all gotten incredibly lazy.

Guess they deem the artwork to expensive to put on the discs.

Check out the old Lionsgate DVDs.
They're plain white with the titles in black. I thought my DVD copy of May was a bootleg at first back when I bought it in 2009.

I prefer box art to look nice but I don't care much about disc art. As long as the title of the film is on there, I'm okay. Heck, you didn't have disc art in the days of laserdisc and VHS...

My vote goes to the black labels Warner has been using for the past few years. The Disney, Paramount & Universal discs are plain and generic, but the Warner discs are an eye sore.

Yeah, Sony often have pretty nice disc designs. I also love Stand By Me:

I'll never understand how some people don't care about nice disc design because when you think about it, it is essentially what we're buying when we're paying for a blu ray... Other than a plastic case which can be very cheap if you order them 5-10-25 at a time, and a paper cover. Unless it's a fancy packaging like a digibook/steelbook.

I think Universal is the worst. They don't even bother giving the discs a color (except for a few releases). They simply stamp the title name on the reflective disc. So disappointing.

I second this. It's actually my favorite disc art released as of yet. I think the one for The Social Network was great as well.

Worst cover IMO. Bright white background with just the title of the movie. I almost felt insulted when I first opened the blu-ray case. Both 3D and Blu-ray looked like this. At least the DVD had some reflection to it, from a typical Warner Bros. disc.

Speaking of bad designs... I feel bad for UK members. They get the foul rating stickers on the cover art, spine, back, AND discs. And they're not really stickers since you can't remove them (only in some cases for steelbooks).
