August - Gamescom in Germany
September - Tokyo Game Show (TGS)
December - Video Game Awards (VGAs) in the US somewhere

There's also some events like PAX and the EuroGamer Expo if you're just interested in playing announced games, not getting major new announcements.

Do we normally get many big announcements from THS?

That's kind of it for the big announcement game shows for the year. It seems to be the developers announcing the games as and when they are ready.

Lots of smaller scale Game conventions though, PAX, RTX, EuroGamer and a few in Australia. But only ever a few announcements from these.

We often get a few announcements out of the gamecon, but not on the scale of E3

Tokyo Game Show tends to get announcements for games from Japanese developers/publishers (as you'd expect).

GamesCom doesn't often get a ton of new game announcements, and when they do it's usually from European developers/publishers (LittleBigPlanet, for instance).

However, in a year where there are TWO new consoles coming? I expect Sony to have a very strong presence and a lot to announce at TGS, and possibly at GamesCom as well. Microsoft probably still has a few tricks up their sleeve too. Both companies know there's still five months between now and November and having nothing new to talk about in that time will kill whatever buzz they have.

I expect to see some pretty big titles shown or teased at TGS in September. It will be the last push to sell the systems. I'm guessing God of War and Uncharted 4 will be teased. That will put the nail in Microsofts coffin.

Uncharted 4 I imagine will be revealed at the same event as all three prior games and TLOU where revealed in to keep momentum in sales.

Sony won't reveal God of War or Uncharted at Tokyo Game Show. The Japanese market does not care much for either franchise. If they're going to reveal a game in either franchise, it'll either be at an independent event, or GamesCom.

More likely, though, if the games aren't coming at launch, they'll probably wait for the Spike VGAs or some such.

That said, I expect a lot more info about games at TGS from Japanese developers.

Level 5 (Ni No Kuni, White Knight Chronicles, Professor Layton, Inazuma Eleven, Dragon Quest) is known to be making a PS4 title, but what game they're making for the PS4 is unknown.

Square-Enix will undoubtedly show off some PS4 stuff to follow what they teased at E3 (sure, sure, FFXV and KH3 are multiplatform, but Japan as a market won't care because Sony basically has that territory on lockdown at this point unless they do something really stupid like launch in 2015). I expect that with the announcement of Kingdom Hearts 3, they're already at work on a Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD Remix to catch people up (KH2 Final Mix, Birth By Sleep, Re: Coded, and maybe Dream Drop Distance too). Also a big question mark is what their Dissidia team is working on ever since Dissidia [012] Duodecim.

Sony Japan Studio has been relatively quiet. They've got a lot of small to mid sized teams. Gran Turismo 6 is obviously coming for PS3, along with Puppeteer, and Rain. But they still have teams that are in radio silence. Project Siren team (Siren: Blood Curse, Gravity Rush for PS Vita) hasn't been heard from since finishing Gravity Rush last year, for instance.

And then there are the rest of the Japanese developers. Capcom (Lost Planet 3, maybe Deep Down, maybe Dragon's Dogma 2, plus probably a new iteration of Street Fighter). Namco-Bandai (probably Soul Calibur VI, who knows what else...). Koei-Tecmo (Dynasty Warriors and various and sundry Musou games). Konami (MGS5, but they have other teams). I expect at least a few of these to announce games for PS3/PS4/3DS/maybePSV at TGS.

I expect Gamescom to announced more details about the PS4, like release date, and possible news of Sony's other first party studios. Hopefully the connectivity with Vita as well

List of companies who will be at Tokyo Game Show (TGS) 2013.

Quote:
CESA released a list of exhibitors confirmed for Tokyo Game Show and Microsoft will return to the show even though they skipped TGS last year. Of course, Sony Computer Entertainment will be there along with usual third party developers like Capcom, Square Enix, and Konami.

Where’s Nintendo you say? Well, Nintendo doesn’t attend Tokyo Game Show. What about Atlus? Last year they had a little corner in Sega’s booth since Sega helps distribute their games. Rockstar Japan shared a booth with Capcom in the past too, although it’s unknown if they will do so this year. One company missing from the list is Level-5. They had their own event in 2011, but attended Tokyo Game Show with a big Fantasy Life display in 2012.

Tokyo Game Show will take place on September 19 through September 22.

Has anyone ever attended any of the PAX events? My wife was able to get me tickets for PAX Prime and I'm not sure what to expect other than the usual con stuff, poor hygiene and bathroom etiquette.

Level-5 announced they just started are working on a PS4 back in April.

I doubt we will anything on that title till 2014.

And If it is Ni No Kuni 2, then I would expect 2015/2016 Japanese release. Add another year for NA.
