I thought it was great. It was actually the way the director wanted it initially and the studio won out with the theatrical version.

i felt the same way, it was an ok movie but after youve seen the original its horrendous. it wouldnt be so bad if the original was also on the disk, then id be happy, but only this version made me mad. i couldnt believe they just completely cut out kris kristofferson and the most memorable parts of the film

I never liked the theatrical release, but thought the directors cut was great. To each his own I guess.

They could release both versions of the movie in the same disk using seamless branching, but nooooo.

Why do that when you can double dip?

I'm not sure if the branching would work, I have both on DVD and remember they had a totally different color scheme (the original release had a blueish-silver look throughout, the DC looked more natural). But yeah both on one BD50 still could have worked, maybe?

I liked the theatrical version, but I thought the directors cut was much better.

FAIL.

Holy CRAP. The best part about Payback is the first 5 minutes, and they completely screwed it up.

Y'know what? I don't care if the studio stepped on the director's toes. I loved the original, and that's what I mistakenly thought I was buying...

I guess I'll keep my VHS version a while longer. *shudder*

You can find the original on DVD for like 1.50$ in most used racks.
Personaly I find the director's cut marginally improve the movie, the deletion of the awful Kristoferson reshoots is welcome thought.
They should have included both cuts encoded separately on the same dual layer disc.

If I like the movie, I will get the BD for the best PQ/AQ of the main feature and find a used DVD for the extras.

I liked the original theatrical version and thats why I didn't purchase this movie. They could have included both on the bd with the seamless branching.

Warner owns the Theatrical Cut overseas. So eventually, it will probably come out (and I hope they are doing lossless on all titles by then).

After I bought the director's cut, unaware that there were two version, I said what the...? after I saw the ending. I loved the theatrical version, and I, too, wish that both versions were included on the disc. So for now I will keep the original DVD, though I probably won't watch it.
