Default 4 Film Favorites: Lethal Weapon Collection

(I created this thread in the hopes that the mods will create a section for Problematic Discs and Packaging.)

--------------------------------------------------

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/4-Fil...Blu-ray/73984/

On May 28, 2013, Warner released several "4 Film Favorites" sets (currently Best Buy Exclusives, though none of the discs include new content). They all use cases that come with stacked discs (two on each spindle).

Additionally, the Lethal Weapon Collection has these problems:

1st batch -- Lethal Weapon 1 is the old disc from 2006 instead of the new disc from the 2012 box set. Lethal Weapon 2 is actually the Swordfish Blu-ray. Lethal Weapon 3 and 4 are from the 2012 box set.

2nd batch -- Lethal Weapon 1 is still the old disc from 2006. Lethal Weapon 2, 3, and 4 are from the 2012 box set.

Bear in mind that the 2012 box set includes a fifth disc with additional Bonus Features.

Best Buy pulled the problematic first batch from store shelves, though some people may not be aware of this issue if they didn't try to play Lethal Weapon 2.

Also, even if you don't watch Bonus Features, the picture and audio quality of the first movie are not as good as those of the remastered versions of the second, third, and fourth movie.

Buyer beware!

(For more information, please read this thread: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=220890 .)

I just picked this up and was wondering if it got fixed. But looks like it's not. Looks as if I got the 2nd release with 2, 3 and 4 the remasters.

Damn! What to do? Return or keep?

I would return it and order the 5 disc set from Amazon UK.
First: It's region free, so the movies and extras will play fine on any US Blu Ray player.
Second: Right now the price is $19.23 shipped!
Third: You'll get all the correct discs plus the 5th bonus disc.

Yeah I'll probably return it.

Is Amazon UK linked with Amazon US so I can just use my account or do you have to make an account on the UK site?

Yes, Amazon UK is linked with Amazon US, I didn't need to make a new account.

Damn. I had no clue about the issues with this set. At least I got the one where the issue with 2 was corrected (it did occur to me the artwork on 1 was not consistent with 2-4). Still, for $14.99, not a bad deal.

Also a bummer that the disc for one just has a handful of deleted scenes and no commentary.

The crappy DD 5.1 sound was noticeable right away. Picture not very good, but I wasn't expecting much from this movie in the first place.

I will probably not take this back and just see if I can get WB to exchange the first disc.

If they would just correct the set, I'd buy!

Any chance of the Extended Director's cuts being released soon?

From what I've heard those where not approved by the Director and are just something Warner put out for a money grab. The Director has stated that the theatrical versions are his Director's cuts of the films.

So I don't think we'll see those so called Director's Cuts again.

Did Warner Bros. ever replace the part 1 disc in this set?

I don't think the inclusion of the old disc for part 1 is a mistake. They always use the outdated discs in the cheaper sets. If they didn't no one would buy the box set. I think the only way people will get all the good versions is with the box set.

Well, I was hoping this set had gotten fixed, mainly due to shelf space concerns. This set would take up much less shelf space than the other collection.

However, pic quality does ultimately mean more to me in the long run.

Not when the specs on the back list DTS-HD MA soundtracks for all 4 films.

The original LW disc was DD.

On a side, I haven't picked up either box, but this one always catches my eye. It's cheap and I'm not sure if I really care about the bonus features disc of the regular box set or not. But it's not worth the hassle....maybe there will be the right 4 discs at some point.

I can't comment on the UK version mentioned above, but the North American version of the 5-disc collection comes in a blu-ray keepcase that is just slightly thicker than your average single sized case (which this 4 Film Favorites version comes in). Unless you're so strapped for shelf space that 1-2 mm makes a difference, there shouldn't be an issue with shelf space if you get the 5-disc collection, particularly if you sell/shred/recycle the slipcover.

Last December, I bought the Blu-Ray Double Feature of Casablanca and The African Queen for $6.99 from amazon.ca. I was hoping that the version of Casablanca included would not be the 65th Anniversary Edition from 2008 because that transfer had too much DNR. The specifications on the back of the cover were for the inferior edition. When I received my set in the mail I loaded the Casablanca disc into my Blu-Ray player and luckily it was the newer 70th Anniversary Edition from 2012 with the stunning new transfer.

I think that it is very asinine that the 4-Film Favourites Lethal Weapon set features the old 2006 Blu-Ray of the first film. This problem should have been fixed. The Lethal Weapons films are on my list of movies to get on Blu-Ray and I thought that the 4-Film Collection would be a great way to get them. I guess I'll wait for the problem to be fixed or I'll just wait for the 5-Disc Collection to go on sale and grab that instead.

Wal-Mart Let it be known

As of time of posting Wal-Mart (at least those in the 956 area code) is currently selling Batch 1 Lethal Weapon Collection Blu-ray for $12.96 in their bargan bins. I say the whole thing smells a little fishy to me... wish me luck on getting my money back on two copies.

Wow, a year later, and messed up sets are still floating around?

Default Costco has these sets with the old LW1 Disc

LW2-4 are fine, but the original is still DD 5.1 with the old transfer. Back of the slipcase still says DTS-HD MA English 5.1.

Buyer beware. Mine's going back unfortunately.
