Do you know about this tech? and i do alot of downloading, and most of my audio files are in mp3. so i wouldn't mind listening to them in surround.

MP3 is MUCH more compressed that something like Dolby Digital, so the sound quality is much worse. There's not much point in having a decent audio system if all you're gonna feed it is MP3s! |

The PS3 store Blu-ray Trailer of "Across The Universe" is in AAC 5.1 and it sounds like shit. It sound like everything is being listened to through running water, if you can imagine that. It's averages 128kbps. Btw, for those who dont' know, AAC is "advanced audio codec" an alternative(read=superior) to MP3 and iTunes codec of choice. So, maybe if I had a HTIB I would not hear the difference but ugh, it was horrible. DD 448kbps at the LOWEST for me.

![]() Anyway, the 5.1 MP3 sounds nice. I use my MP3 player in the car, and I wouldn't mind being able to use the car's 6.1 audio. Of course, I would expect the 5.1 to take up at least twice the space (8MB instead of 4MB for an average song) When is this 5.1 MP3 going to be available for use? |

I dont know if it would be so bad to have mp3 in 5.1 if they were at 320 kbps. I play mp3s on my ps3 and they sound pretty good if the bitrate is high enough. I cant believe itunes sells mp3s that are 128 kbps. 128 is considered inferior quality when it comes to mp3s. I dont like to get anything less than 192.

Yeah MP3 sucks. It's MPEG 1!! (Layer 3) I am going to re-encode all my music for my iPod in Apple Lossless Mpeg 4. (When iTunes fixes it's encoding error with version 7.6.1.9) which is it cuts of 5 seconds of the last song on each CD.
iTunes plus songs are 256kb/s |

That's cool. Personally, I really can't stand listening to MP3s on my home stereo. I've gone back to listening to CDs instead of my iPod. The sound is so much fuller and about a million times cleaner. MP3s are OK for those earbud headphones that come with your iPod, but that's about it. Anytime I can get an iTunes Plus track I do it. I wish SACD took off a bit more. For movies, or even for music, MP3 surround just won't sound good enough for me. I don't have an HDMI receiver yet, but I can't wait! All my BDs will get another viewing, or two.
