Default Magic Mike XXL

Quote:
Yes, "Magic Mike 2" is still happening, but there are a lot of things that need to be finalized before Channing Tatum and co. take it off and get it on again. Ever since news of the followup surfaced, we've learned that it will be a road movie, it will reunite all the characters from the first film, and Tatum himself might direct. However, he's also long-maintained that he's rightfully wary making his first movie in the shadow of Steven Soderbergh, and he might want to get his feet wet on another movie first, if he were to direct "Magic Mike 2." However, an interesting carrot is being dangled by none other than Soderbergh himself. "...... either [my producing partner] Reid Carolin and I will direct it together, or we'll have Greg Jacobs direct.

All of those guys were born in the late 80's or early 90's....meh. I can't find 90's guys attractive. I feel like I would be going full on cougar.

I don't think they'd hire them anyway. The audience majority over 25. They'll probably stick with the same formula. Alex was meant to be young so he gets a pass, plus he looks older than what he is.

On its opening weekend, Magic Mike attracted an audience of 73% females, including 43% of women over the age of 35.Dan Fellman, Warner Bros. Pictures President of Domestic Distribution, said this phenomenon could be compared to Sex and the City, which had also appealed to large groups of women.

Unnecessary sequel.

If the series keeps up, I wouldn't be surprised if it turned into a direct-to-video franchise with random actors in each new film, similar to the Bring It On franchise.

No. It ended fine the first time. If Soderburg isn't back there'll be no movie.

Are you kidding? It had the biggest cliffhanger ending of last year. We didn't get to see what they ate for breakfast.

I'd watch a sequel, but only if Soderbergh directs it. I liked but didn't love the 1st one, but I enjoyed the characters & I thought Matthew McConaughey was great in it.

As long as we get some full frontal this time. No, that pump scene didn't count.

Yeah, if ever there was a movie that did not need a sequel, this is it. This is just the studio thinking "hey, we can get horny housewives out to the theater AGAIN and make some $$!"

I thought it was much more of a guys film than anything.

The plot, sure. But the demographics of who actually went to see it are very different:
Quote:
The Warner Bros. pic generated intense interest among females, who made up a whopping 73 percent of the audience. Women of all ages turned out, with 43 percent of the those being over the age of 35.

Most guys I know specifically avoided the film, unless they were dragged to see it by their wife/girlfriend. I must admit I waited until Blu-Ray before I watched it...and I say that as a Soderbergh fan. Even as much money as the movie made, I can't see a sequel being especially popular...the first made its money off of horny housewives who got "the girls" together in packs to whoop and holler at the screen (while their husbands/boyfriends likely slunk down in their seats in embarrassment), and it was probably a one-off success story. I actually thought it was a good movie (kind of a Boogie Nights Lite), and yet the film ends with Channing Tatum apparently giving up the male stripper gig for good, so...what's the hook?

I went and saw it in the theater - might have even been opening day. I even liked it. But it doesn't need a sequel.

I don't know about you guys, but I liked the movie. Even watched it at midnight with a theater full of women. The energy was crazy. I watched it on Blu-ray more than 5 times.

Wouldn't mind a sequel if Steven Soderbergh came back. However, Channing Tatum did expressed interest in getting Nicolas Winding Refn to direct the first movie before Soderbergh was on board.

Only worth watching if Soderbergh returns. First movie was surprisingly pretty good.
