Question Is the BDPS3100 region free?

I was thinking of buying Aladdin and I wanted to know if my BDPS3100 is region free?

Don't forget that as a region-free model, this Sony BDP-S3100 plays ALL regions of DVD and ALL regions of Blu-ray discs. It has a built-in PAL to NTSC converter and works at any voltage. This player can literally play any disc, on any TV, anywhere in the world!!

It says right on the website linked above that they do hardware modifications to make them region free.

Unlike software or firmware solutions, our region free hardware modifications are guaranteed to play Blu-Ray Discs and DVD's from any region!

Sony does not make a region free player...meaning a player that is region free "out of the box". That is a modified player .

Where are you getting it from? There are plenty of titles sold overseas which are region free. If you are importing the UK version, it will play fine in any US player since the release is region free. Your player Region "A" player will play region free titles . Region free titles = will play in any region.

Default BDP-S3100 Not UK Compatible

I saw a posting on here that says the BDP-S3100 is able to Bluray disc from UK and I wanted to say that is no the case. I just got the DR. Who Season 8 and it won't play due to Player Incompatibility....so if you are buying a UK disc make sure you are able to play UK region 2 or 4 which the BDP-S3100 doesn't. But they do make a version of Player that will so for someone that said they don't make a region free they do it's a Multi-Region that ends with an in the Model # i.e...BDP-S5100E

As has been pointed out Sony (and Panasonic and indeed any of the well known brands) do not supply nor are allowed to supply region free players.

To buy these brands region free you need to buy from a retailer who will either modify the player themselves or have an external company do it.
Making Bluray players multi region for dvd playback is cheap and easy to do.
Multi region Bluray playback is another story.

However , I'm sure that like the UK you can visit budget stores that will supply cheap and cheerful imports from the far east that are either modified or are easily modified using the players own remote control.
These budget players inevitably fall short in other areas though .
