Just watched the second airing, Perry County Grassman, and I'm still on the fence about the show. The best way to describe it is Finding Bigfoot, but with hillbillies looking for more than just Sasquatch. They call themselves Appalachian Investigators of Mysterious Sightings (AIMS). It's obviously scripted and staged, but it's entertaining and I'm a sucker for this kind of television (Monster Quest). I need a couple more episodes before I decide to commit, but I'm sure I'll stick it out.

After watching several episodes from several seasons every episode follows the same basic story structure. 1. They get a call from someone who is having a problem with some creature. 2. They go and interview them, usually shown some photographic or video evidence. 3. They go and investigate and find some so called evidence. 4. They go on the first night time "hunt". They get scared of some noises or something in the woods. 5. The two guys build a trap. 6. They go on another "hunt". During which they again hear howls in the woods or stuff is thrown at them. They get the upper hand and chase the creature right to the trap. 7. By the time they get there 99% of the time the trap is smashed or the bait is simply gone. (I think the only time I saw them capture some creature were just some normal sized hogs.) 8. They get pissed about it but soon are all joking about it. The one thing I have to wonder, it seems that all of these creatures are nocturnal. If so, why do "hunts" at night? Wouldn't it be more easy to do it during the day and just investigate the area for possible areas where a creature can sleep during the day and capture it when it's sleeping? There are several other monster shows that seem to follow this same basic story structure, one being Alaska Monsters. |

Oh man this show is great. Every time I catch a random episode on it seems to be about the Dark Forest. I've see episodes where they were hunting some kind of werewolf, a little spirit girl, and one where they finally confronted the "other team" they're always having trouble with.

And from what I can find out the last episode aired in June 2017. That's almost 2 years ago now. Surely if it was renewed, new episodes would have aired by now. I think it's been un-officially cancelled. |
