![]() ![]() ![]() 7/23/99 vs. 10/29/99 It was especially ridiculous when it was originally going to be "The House on Haunted Hill" vs. "The Haunting of Hill House". Eventually they decided to go with just "The Haunting" (same title as the first adaptation) instead of the original book title. |

pretty comprehensive list, you can say there is always a (b) extraordinarily cheap version produced as well, usually starring Michael Dudikoff :P.
executive decision/ executive command (strategic command).. in a slightly different interpretation, there have been similar themes passing through movies as well, such as the crunched moon hovering in orbit. Oblivion, Star Trek, Man of Steel and seemingly Riddick have these ![]() |

Actually a few of them were only about one or two months apart.
I think we are more so talking about the word on a broader range. Two similar movies within a year, in which one isn't copying the other since you would assume both would have been in production around the same time. Competing in the sense of which one ends up being the better movie and makes the most money. |

I'm not sure I would consider those, since Fast is an existing franchise long before this other film was announced.
I guess I was more thinking, like someone else mentioned, of new movies released within months or a year of each other, where it's just weird coincidence, since both had to have already been in production and not knock-offs. |

Wow, there are a lot more examples than I thought. When these two movies came out I instantly thought of Volcano vs Dantes Peak and Armageddon vs Sudden Impact. In just about all those cases the bigger money winner was by far the better picture.
I've seen Olympus Has Fallen and it was not bad, White House down I am not too interested in seeing at all. So I will be helping its cause in being considered the better White House take over flick of 2013. |

I thought of one that struck me at the time -- Megamind and Despicable Me. Same year, both animated kids features with the idea of a super-villain as the central character, revealing a heart of gold.

Todays news link regarding duelling movies about to be released as Zelda Fitzgerald biopics:
http://thenewdaily.com.au/entertainm...n=20161027_TND makes me wonder why this keeps happening every few years? Which movies released around the same time on the same subject do you recall, and which of the competing two was the favoured pic. for you? Example: In the late 1980's Glenn Close's hit "Dangerous Liaisons" and the lesser seen "Valmont" with Annette Bening. |
