Default 2008 model LG 42LBX vs. XBR4

I'm wondering which TV looks better, and why? It is really difficult to find reviews on this LG BTW.

The Story:
We just remodeled our sun room and were looking to wall mount a 40"-42" LCD. While i was at work, my mom decided to go to a local retailer and check out the TV's. I sent her in to look at the XBR4's(they didn't have them but could get XBR5's for like $2399.99). So instead of talking to me about it(i work in electronics at sears) she decided to buy the LG 42LBX model with 120 hz TruMotion because we wanted sony's 120 hz MotionFlow and they claimed LG's was the same.
The only problems I have reading on this TV(i have yet to see it) is the contrast is only 10,000:1 where, i know you shouldn't compare cross brands w/ contrast ratio but this is a huge difference, sony's is 18,000:1. Also i find that Sony has the best motion enhancer of all companies, i tend to notice glitches in other companies like Samsung w/ their MotionPlus. Other than that, it rates good and she got it for $1900. Do you think she should get this, or spend $200 more and get the xbr4 from best buy?

IMO, I would go with the Sony, but I am not a big fan of LG products. I just think you would be getting a better product with the XBR4......again that is my opinion

i'm thinking the same, i've always been a bigger fan of sony products. Plus she's getting a Sony blu-ray player with it and since sony has theater sync, it will be easier to operate everything with one remote.

Sony LCD>LG LCD. From al the feedback I have read as well as personal experience, but also personal opinion, the Sony XBR's have the best PQ of any LCD I have seen.

I've had 4 LG TVs. I intended to purchase 1. Every single one of them has had problems. I have had over 15 repair visits, and had to pull teeth to get them replaced. I bought direct from LG, and they refused to give me a refund.

I will never again purchase another LG TV.

There is a huge amount of mosquito noise, by the way. I also have HDMI issues at 1080i (which is my max resolution).

Avoid LG like the plague.

Sorry

Sony > LG any day in LCDs.

The only brand that I would really consider for LCDs are Sony and Sharp Aquos. Maybe, just maybe Samsung.

OR

I'd go Plasma as well from Panny

LG? I didn't even know they made LCD's until this post. All I read about in this forum is sony pioneer samsung and panasonic. So yeah, I think you should return it for a Sony.

I own an XBR5 which is very similar to the XBR4 and I'm very satisfied with it. Never owned an LG LCD but comparing them in the store, it made my choice fairly easy.
