Mas Max, is that a new Chinese rip-off of Mad Max by any chance?

TBH, i'm not really interested in this game at all. I'll wait for previews, and reviews but I got a feeling it will be mediocre and under deliver on the potential it has like quite a lot of games.

It's not the source material that puts me off, but the first instance was when the devs go 'Oh, who bloody cares if it's an American accent on an Aussie character?!' and then when I saw the look of the character it looked 'meh'.

Now, the concept is a bit neat, but everything is always in the execution and in this case, just like the Order 1886 it just looks 'meh' like the character design to me.

Now, if its an open world game like I think, and full of richness and diversity I would be on board. Think Last of Us, but set in the Mad Max world without the cordyceps elements. Just brutal humans like the Hunters and David out to get you, but then you also come across communities like the one Tommy lives in.

Now, you'd have to take all that and put it into a bigger story I guess.

I see no reason for this game to exist. Why bother making a game based on a movie from the late 70's. The people who were kids then aren't exactly the target market for games these days. Just seems like a waste of money.

So why even make this thread then if most of the comments are going to be negative?

Aren't we? I think we might be some of the target market.

I'm well aware of the new movie. Would you like to also discuss the history of video games based on movies? That would be a short discussion of 3 good games and a billion terrible ones. Just because theres a movie coming out doesn't mean they needed to make a game about it or the past ones. The studio had a pretty good thing going for it with Just Cause but now it looks like they are making this game just cuz.

You are the target market I guess but you shouldn't be if they are looking to recoup any money. Games based off old movie franchises have only done well a couple of times and had a HUGE name i.e. The Godfather. Even that didn't sell that well, nor did Scarface. Even the Matrix game sold crap.

You're right, I probably won't buy it. Those of us who were kids when Mad Max 2 came out have been buying games long enough to know not to buy movie franchise games as they are usually crap. (What are the three good games?)

The game exists because there is an audience for it. You think the game would have been greenlit if they thought it would not sale. Just because you are not interested in it, nor understand it does not mean others think like you do.

You think so? Why would there all the sudden be a market for a game based on a movie from almost 35 years ago regardless of its upcoming update? I would love to see the preorder numbers or even the sheer number of gamers who have a clue what Mad Max even is. Of course someone thinks its going to sell but as I have shown, others thought that about more recent and better selling movie franchises as well. Its a fools errand. This game will only sell based on its own merits if anything, not its name.

Let's imagine for a few seconds that this game was called something other than
[Show spoiler]Mad Max
, like a spin off entitled, "Just Cause: Wasteland" for PS4, and was an open world game based in the desert with vehicle based and hand to hand as well as armed combat in a post apocalyptic wasteland.

What's not to like about that if you're also a fan of the theme from the Fallout series, Wasteland or Id's Rage, and Borderlands on PS3?

If Avalanche's track record is anything to go by, this game will offer plenty of freedom and fun gameplay.

Off Topic: Beenox also made a game called Amazing Spider Man on PS3 which had themes from the movie, but not a recreation of the movie, creating its own story line and characters (as will Amazing Spiderman 2 this May on PS4) in an open city. That game was very enjoyable and is a movie licensed game.

Hey you're talking about me. Lol. I was born in 71 and had the very first video games. Pong and Break Out. Still remember the day my mom brought the system home. Loved gaming every since even though I gave it up for a few years.

I liked The Road Warrior movie better than Mad Max though.

Anyone not remotely interested in playing an open world Mad Max game obviously hasn't watched the movies. They're pretty awesome, especially Road Warrior. I'm looking forward to finding out more about this game.
