My "Audio to Television" ratio is about 12-1 and you think getting speakers that cost more than your t.v. is bad why??????

Going to hijack this a little as it asks the same question I wanted to ask without me getting the "search, dummy!" response.

For someone wanting to dip their toe into lossless audio possibilities, is the Onkyo HT-SP908 the best budget buy out there? It's honestly a little above my price range, but my current HTiB sucks. I need something that includes speakers, but don't need a dvd player.

I'm not an audiophile, but I would like to get more out of my BD's. I have a PS3 and a 42" 1080p LCD, with a max viewing distance of about 8 feet. I don't really have the room for more than 5.1 currently, and have an 80+ year old house, so cutting into the walls/ceiling isn't something I want to get into.

Any suggestions are welcome.

why does it have to come with speakers? Why not a reciever, then just buy the speaker? The total cost can still be the same as the HTIB, if that's your concern.

what's your budget?

If you want a "really nice quality" receiver and 7.1 setup, you will have to spend more than 800$.

I suggest you wait until you get the money to get a descent system (or "buy now pay later"). You can get an HTIB if you can't wait but don't expect "really nice quality".

Right now the Onkyo HT-SP908 will suit him fine. Asking for him to bump up his price range is really out of the question. Like I said earlier, he can upgrade the speaker wire, adjust the EQ, and use the Auto-setup for optimum SQ. I'm sure people who say HTIB systems suck don't know what good quality Onkyo HTIB systems can perform.

Doesn't have to come with speakers, it can be separate as long as the end result in price is the same. I'm not against that in any way.

My budget is a lot less than most of you, but it'd be $700. I can't do any more than that with my family and such. I'd like to be less than that but assuming the ratio of features and quality to price are there it's doable.

the Onkyo HT-SR908 consists of an Onkyo 605 and onkyo brand speakers...

You can always buy the Onkyo 605 seperate. ($390 + free shipping)

...but like I said earlier, a slighty better pick would be the Yamaha RX-V663 ($400 + free shipping)

But either would be a great system to have.

Ok man. I want a reciever for under 500 basically. So this reciever allows only one HDMI output that goes into your tv right? Then it does the HD Sound. It has DTS HD MA and Dolby TRUE HD? Doesnt say on BB.com. Also what is a great 7.1 bundle?

And i dont want another hTIB i already have one. right home theater in a box.

ALSO FOR THIS
Technical Details
90 Watts/Channel at 8 ohms (FTC)
DTS-ES Discrete/Matrix, DTS Neo:6, DTS 96/24, Dolby Digital EX, Dolby Pro Logic Iix
Faroudja DCDi Edge Enhancement
Powered Zone 2 and 12 V
XM Ready with XMHD Surround

IT DOESNT SAY ANYWHERE TRUE HD OR DTS HD MA!
