Default Damaged steelbooks: Has this happened to you?

I have had amazing luck so far buying steelbooks from eBay, the European Amazon sites, and Zavvi. But I got this in the mail today from a seller on eBay:

It was wrapped in bubble wrap, had paper bag padding, and the box shows no sign of being crushed. How did this happen? I e-mailed the seller a couple of hours ago and awaiting his reply.

P.S. I could not find any threads like this on here, so if one does exist pages down, I apologize.

I bet you anything that the seller had it in that condition, but "forgot" to mention it in the listing, in order for it to get noticed and bought.

It happens. I would say half of my steelbooks have a ding there, or paint chip there. But to match the level of damage you're showing in your photo. It's only happened a couple of times.

If you say the box shown no sign of damage, and it was protected on the inside, then it was probably already like that before it was shipped. In which you should prepare a claim if you don't get a response.

They can't all be mint. Hope you get a replacement, or at least a refund.

Damnnnnnnnn, I've never seen a steelbook damaged that badly. So far, so good for me when ordering from overseas but I'll eventually fall victim to it, I can feel it. *crosses fingers*. Anyways, you better contact that seller quickly and see if you can get a refund or just return it, if not file a claim.

Wow, I have had damaged steelbooks, but nothing as bad as that. Best of luck getting the problem fixed.

You should have seen my Star Trek steelbook from FutureShop I got from last year. The Mailman was a complete $#!+head. It was almost as bad as that. Eventually, I did get a mint one. Then a week later they were re-printing them. That's just the way it is.

I just spent an hour with him on the phone. Very talkative. Understanding. I'm completely floored. I sent him this pic and we chatted about steelbooks and movies in general. He's issuing me a refund right now and not requiring me to send it back.

My first bad order on eBay in 12 years, and it is truly the most memorable experience I've ever had.

Did he say that it was damaged before shipping it?

He had pics of it on his listing. He 100% claims that it was new and undamaged. He sounds a lot like me. Very open. Very honest. I believe him. I think the box may have had some weight on it at some point and it warped it.

Now what do I do with it? He said to not bother sending it back. My refund is sent already. Any ideas?

Salvage the casing and make accessories like a belt buckle, pendant, or pin? You could probably make something neat out of it if you want!

Every single steelbook I've received through the post would have been fine if not for those villainous spine slashers. Their tyranny never ends.

I would try to unbend it but it looks like the plastic inner would be destroyed and you'd be left with a lot of marks anyways. kallima probably has the most creative idea

Thanks! My first idea was to make dog tags out of them because IIRC the cover has dog tags, so it'd be pretty easy to do that. After you're done "up-cycling" it, keep it as a memento, give it as a gift, or throw them on etsy to sell. You'd be amazed at what people buy!

I tried my best to see if I could fix it, but the spine is completely unsalvageable. It's such a pity. It's a beautiful steel.

If anything, I just used it to practice popping off the insert for making my own custom interior artwork to add into some of my other steelbooks. Maybe I could throw the discs on eBay by themselves and see what happens...

I'm not too good with my hands, and I wouldn't call this one of my favorite movies, otherwise I would try to make something out of it. Anybody wanna take it off my hands and try one of Kallima's cool suggestions?

The ebay seller didn't want to give me a refund either he said i sitll had the movie... oO then demanded i mail it back with tracking if i wanted a refund which to mexico back then would cost the same as my order -_-

I've got a better idea: try to see if you can donate it to a local library. Some libraries, like the one I work for as a librarian, give you a tax-deductible donation receipt in return.

When Best Buy released that series of Steelbooks a year or so back, I ordered a few from HDMovieSource. One of them arrived crushed. They replaced it after requesting proof of the damage.

I sent them the following pictures...
