Default Interesting article on porting The Crew from PC to PS4.

Eurogamer put up a good read this morning that has some insight into PS4 development, the hurdles, the advantages, etc. Worth a read for people looking at the PS4. Going to be weird seeing PC as the lead platform now!

Early days but very promising start. Seeing that they managed to essentially port over core data in 6 months with only 2-3 people working on it is shocking

I mean, I never would've ever thought they could do that on a videogame in this day and age, but that's definitely giving weight to Mark Cerney's 1-2 month 'Time to Triangle' ambitions from the PS1 era if a full team was going at it.

I think, ANY games however built from the ground up though on PS4 would probably hit the ground running a lot more than taking existing data from a PC environment, and then having to essentially play a 10k+ puzzle to find where everything fits and properly.

Yeah, PS4 specific games will be an interesting metric for the system's performance. Still, it's pretty impressive that they're going to be able to handle multiplatform ports that easily, especially as they get used to everything involved in that and are able to do it more efficiently. I imagine these launch window games will still have to do some of the trickery they mentioned as far as AA goes until developers are more familiar with the system... but still, it doesn't seem like that will take them very long. Hopefully, that will help developers reduce production costs, and that's good for everyone.

Reason why I ended up getting a console was because back then PC games of the same release on a console took like a year to just get to the PC (GTA) So I wonder how it's going to be now.

That may be true with big 3rd party titles but obviously won't be the case for the Sony 1st party games like the Uncharted game series, whatever Quantic Dream puts out, Killzone series.
