Default No more HD DUD at my Futureshop

Went to Futureshop today to buy Walk Hard only to get a big smileon my face when I seen the entire HD DVD section was gone, not a single HD DVD in the store. AWESOME! So the BD section got expanded to twice the size.

It was very nice to see just one hi-def format sitting on store shelves.

I bought Walk Hard and will we watchign it tonight.

Some stores still carry HD DVD despite the format war being over. So it's nice to know retailers are moving on. For example, my local Best Buy and Circuit City both carry Blu exclusively now, but the local Wal*Mart (which has a very nice end cap display still sporting some 50-60 individual titles) still has about 30% of their space set aside for HD DVD titles. So far they're the only local retailer still carrying HD DVD that I visit on a semi-frequent basis.

It might be surprising that people actually bought them. I know that at my local F.Y.E. the HD DVD section is still the same size and quite full. the only catch is that the 1000 or so HD DVDs are all used.. not one new one. I laughed when i saw it.

It's not so much that I was surprised as it was obviously just a matter fo time, but it was just nice to see. ONE hi-def format is excellecnt for the industry. I honestly was expecting another month or two for this to happen but it's good to see it happenign sooner.

Clearly this store didn't sell through their HD DVD stock as I was just there a few days prior and the section was still full. Guess they sent them all back.

The local Hastings Books Music & Video in my city discontinued HD-DVD rentals this week. Early this evening I visited the store to see if they had any copies left of Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story to rent (they didn't). Upon entering the store I saw a few dozen used HD-DVD titles in a box, all for sale. Then I found the Blu-ray section had been expanded to fill all the space previously taken up by HD-DVD titles.

Wal-Mart and Sam's Club still have a smattering of HD-DVD titles on their store shelves, despite the stated March 30 deadline to remove all that stuff. Pretty weak selection of Blu-ray titles.

I checked out Hollywood Video (again to look for that Walk Hard movie, which they didn't have at all). They're rearranging some display cases in the store and had a big empty area in a central part of the store. It would be nice if that 2 column space was used for an expanded Blu-ray rental section. Not going to hold my breath on that one. I didn't leave empty handed. Went into the Game Crazy section and picked up a Dualshock 3 controller for my PS3.

No one will have it at retail by June

I expect a final online blowout in May of all the retail returns

Most retailers have blown out their inventory or sent it back as BB did.

I'm alittle shocked that store actually bought the used HD-DVD discs. The used value must be low like $15 at (the very)most.

do people ever read the rules??? this section specifically states "General discussion about Blu-ray, HDMI, AACS, etc. No HD DVD/HD VMD discussions."

I just look at the recent posts and respond. I didnt think anyone but mods would go through the trouble to beat someone up about it. Even though it says, "General discussion about Blu-ray, HDMI, AACS, etc. No HD DVD/HD VMD discussions" in little print the big bold print says General Discussion. If its really a problem for you ask them to change it to General Blu-ray discussion

-.- Really? Your serious?

It also says "General Discussion".
Come on... I think this thread is the perfect place to put it.

Anyway- Back on topic!

My Future Shop still has a good 30% HD-DVDs. Well, at least last time i checked they did...
That was about a week ago. Ill be shure to look next time i go to the mall.
It has been slowly getting smaller and smaller every time i check though. It would be nice to see them just disappear.

As you can see directly above your post supermod WickyWoo has been posting in this thread. I think it's safe to say this is an acceptable subject. I suspect the "no HD DVD" thing is about people trying to talk about it as being better than BD (any sane person knows it's not, but that clause keeps the crazy types at bay).

I don't think this topic is really any more about HD-DVD than it is about Blu-ray. Are the Neilson numbers threads against the rules? Are they only about HD-DVD? The guy is simply stating that his futureshop is now 100% Blu.

Can't wait til I go into mine and see it this way.

Some Best Buy's in Canada still carry the DUD

Mine still has a 50/50 split

P.S. They no longer carry the players however as they only have 2 demo players left which will probably still be there come Xmas

My local Target only has a column (not a shelf but just a column as wide as a single case) of HD DVDs left. That's, like, 5 titles, give or take.

I feel sorry for you, going into a future shop and all.

You really should know, they don't appreciate you as a customer if you know anything about what you want....they proclaim themselves as having "idiots for customers" i guess it's because if they know what they thought, they'd go to a store where people actually knew something about what they sell

Also, about this whole "No discussin Hd-DVD" BS, i believe it's an important part of blu-ray history, and for the argument that Wickywoo posted up there as well, the Mods listen to the rules as much as we do...
