France Ra.One 3D Blu-ray available in France

And crap...I bought mine from Eros.

French distributor Condor Entertainment has released the Anubhav Sinha-directed superhero film Ra.One in an ultimate steelbook Blu-ray 3D/2D/DVD combo pack (2D/DVD combo also available here) as Voltage.

The disc has 5.1 DTS-HD MA in Hindi and dubbed French, with French subtitles. Specail features include a making-of featurette and deleted scenes. No clue as to the picture quality.

So probably this is the first 3D blu ray of a bollywood film? How i wish the movie was even .0001% good. Entirely my opinion.

UPDATE: so apparently, according to an Amazon user comment, the Hindi track is 6.1, not 5.1, and according to another user, the 3D and 2D are on the same disc for the 3D version which I find strange.

MSRP is €29,99 for the Steelbook 3D/2D/DVD combo and €24,99 for the 2D/DVD Splipcover combo (and €19,99 for the basic DVD)

I believe that is the case yes. There have been a couple of Indian releases like Haunted or Raaz 3, but I'm pretty sure they're all standard Blu-rays to be watched with Anaglyph red/blue 3D glasses.

Really? I haven't watched it yet, but surely with that amount of talent and means behind it must at least be .0001% good on some level or another? Then again, the most expensive French film ever made, Astérix 3, iqs quite the crapfest, so who knows...

+1.

and its a shame on part of Indian home video companies to have been failed to release a Real 3D Blu-Ray or a Blu-Ray with its original 6.1/7.1 mix (there are loads of Indian movies mixed in 7.1 and a large number of them have been mixed in 6.1 in the past but never made it to their blu rays ) , i'm sure like Jodha Akbar this movie will also be having much better picture and audio quality than its Indian counterpart.

What's so strange about that ? even Avatar has both 2D And 3D versions on the same disk.

Really? I didn't know that. I thought it would compromise quality as you have to put the movie twice on the disk. I only have on 3D/2D combo, and they're on seperate discs.

That's not how it's done with MVC encoding. One file contains the full frame contents (left eye) and the other file contains only the difference (right eye). Some 3D movies (like Disney's) have floating windows (vertical black bars on either side of the image) during certain scenes. This isn't really noticeable when you watch in 3D but is really distracting in 2D. This is why 2D is usually on a separate disc.

Ra.One probably works for kids, but the Tamil film Enthiran(Robot), to which Ra.One is the closest, totally blows it out of the water.

If you use Google Chrome, it translates the website to english, so much easier to navigate, do let us know about the disc and post pics when you receive. Especially the Languages and the subtitles.

Default Yes mbarat

Thanks for all the info, i will definately give information about the disc when i receive it. I am really excited about the 3d, i got an epson projector when i moved to my new house, and watching movies on a big screen especially 3d is just a whole other dimension, it will be exciting to watch king khan in 3d, i also watched it in 3d in the theatre and remembered the movie having a white haze so the comparison will be interesting.

The audio is 6.1, that will be killer.

I hope other bolllywood studios follow this heed and release movies in 3d. The movie ABCD, with Prabudeva ( spelling) comes to mind, it was awesome the dance sequences in 3d and its a shame that it is only a dvd release

Cool

Confirmed that 3D & 2D are on the same disc. The box states that the Hindi track is 5.1 not 6.1, but maybe that's a mistake. We'll have to wait for bollywoodkarim to say what's what.

Default It is region locked

I ordered ra one not thinking about region lock issue, since all my blu rays are from india , and have no issues, but the disc comes up with a message in french saying it is only for playing in region b, and it is not compatible.

I was so frustrated i ordered a player that is region unlocked and am getting it from chicago on tuesday. Looking foreward to watching it on wednesday.

I can't believe they region locked it, none of the hindi blu rays from india are locked

There are two discs in the package, one has the ra one blu ray 2d 3d version and the other disc has the extra features

I think all Hindi blu-rays released by non Indian companies have so far been region locked. The French 'Bodega' version of Jodha Akbar is locked to 'Region B' too.

Independent French distributors usually Region lock most of the releases.

Don 2 and Dangerous Ishq also saw 3D releases which, whilst not available as of yet on BD are available exclusively on Netflix. They play perfectly on my 3D Sony PJ. To be fair though, the 3d is post conversion on both and it shows.

Ra-one was also post processed. The CGI was ok at best. The train sequence was a cocktail of 'ok' and extremely poor CGI. I fear that the 3D will probably amplify this. The sequence where G-One chases Ra-One up the building is probably the worst bit of cgi in the movie. The wired sequences including the car chase sequence were not too bad. The PQ of the BD was also perhaps the worst i've ever seen. Pathetic blacks and one of the worst Soundtracks i've ever heard on a BD. The whole project seemed to have been totally rushed. I do hope this effort improves on the Eros version.. However, saying that, you can't really polish a turd.
