But didn't Will Smith balk at the kiss in Six Degrees of Separation?
According to an interview, Smith asked for guidance from Denzel Washington about this particular role and Washington advised him to do it but not kiss a guy. Whether or not Washington was/is a homophobe is another matter. Washington said that black boys and men needed role models and seen kissing a guy in films is not it. He obviously sidestepped the whole idea that the character is a hustler and a fake.

Of course in time both Washington and Smith may have changed after all these years. Maturity and time and all.

Sunday Bloody Sunday by John Schlesinger was one of the first UK gay movies to feature a full-on snog back in 1971. According to Schlesinger, the crew thought the snog was to be implied but was shocked to see Finch and Head actually went ahead. I don't know how many times they did the take though.

Here's another movie to add to the BD list: The Celluloid Closet. (EDIT)
Among the 72 movies discussed in The Celluloid Closet are: Advise and Consent (1962), Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969), The Crying Game (1992),

[QUOTE=Joe Cain;787164]Not my theory---the Fresh Prince has never set off my gaydar.

Are you kidding? Will Smith flamed it up all the time on Fresh Prince.

Whoop! Whoop! Whoop! -- Gaydar alert!

As for Jada Pinkett Smith, the rumor mill suggests that she, too, is gay -- or at least bisexual. Will and Jada's marriage is seen by some as a "front" to project a certain image ("normal") to the general public.

It doesn't matter to me what they do. We all have our own lives to live. It just seems interesting to read about Will and Jada's "secret" love lives.

Gods and Monsters was excellent. Forgot about that movie. And kudos to famous and well established actors unafraid to play homosexual characters in movies.

Cool Will you go to lunch?

Glengarry/Glen Ross. The only woman in the whole movie is the Asian coatcheck woman at the seedy China Bowl "Restaurant". George, Ricky, and Williamson... all gay - just a guess.

(OK, truth be told this is just a way to sneak my desire for GG/GR on Blu... no gay label need be applied to this film...)

(...but Moss? Sooooooo gay)

Lol@that. Waiting for Mamet's namesake to ring in...

Before last week I would have added Henry & June to the list, but I recently watched it again and didn't enjoy it as much as I'd remembered. Films about writers are tough. Watching actors playing writers writing is only marginally less exciting that watching actors playing writers talk about their writing; I'd rather re-read Tropic of Cancer or Delta of Venus than watch this film again anytime soon (in spite of some good performances and some erotically-charged scenes).

Small Town Gay Bar is an excellent documentary about a couple queer watering holes in Mississippi. I don't know if it has sufficient rewatchability to merit purchase, but it's definitely worth a rental if you have any interest in the subject matter.

Ok I'll bite on this one. First, however, I'd like to mention that I have many straight friends who enjoy these gay-themed movies, which happen to be favorites of mine for not only the themes and characters but for the cinematography, and which I'd really enjoy seeing go Blu:

Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss
Big Eden
Victor/Victoria
Trick
Shortbus
Ben-Hur

(okay that last one is stretching it. . .but just why DID Messala look so hungrily at Judah?. . .check out The Celluloid Closet for some dirt on that scene!)

Apparently you did have something to chime in about. Would've worked better as your first post, as opposed to your I'm too straight to talk about gay's on film post you started with. And edited!
