This movie seems cool and im a really big fan of Jackie Chan and Jet Li. I definetly want to see this opening day! Probably will go with my friends since it's a few days before my bday. Any of you seen trailers for it?

Seen the trailers for this. It looks like it will be good for me, but most mainstream people will see it as "fake fighting" and dismiss it. I guess if you have any of that "walking on water" or "flying", your mainstream idiot will dismiss it.

I'll still love it, though.

I've been waiting for a movie like this for a long time. I'm sure a lot of people will come just for the jet li/jackie chan combo aspect, I won't deny that I'm going to see how they pair up. The trailer looks pretty decent and it seems like both main actors bring their own distinct flavor to this film.

I'm a fan of Jackie Chan doing all his stunts on his own and everything but i guess I'm "mainstream" for not understanding what the deal is with the walking on water and flying through the air acrobatics. Can someone explain it to me? Perhaps i don't understand wrestling aswell, would anyone care to explain that to me also?

I didn't even know they were both in it. I am a Jet Li fan (but only when he looks old-world Chinese) and I love Jackie Chan. He was awesome in Rush Hour. What ever happened to Chow Hung fat? I believe his last picture was Pirates 3.

I believe you're right. I could be wrong, however.

Jackie and Jet were perfect, I don't care about the rest of the movie... It was written just to have an excuse to combine these great talents. I just zone out until, jackie or jet do something.
There fight scene was awesome, they both threw down some sick moves. You rarely get to see to pros come together like that.

It's a chinese cultural thing. Forbidden Kingdom was basically a modern throwback to the days of old Hong Kong cinema

Eh... that kind of stuff is the reason I don't own any of these movies, no matter how well they're rated. If they're going to rewrite the laws of physics all the combat becomes meaningless and unimpressive to me, it's almost as if they're flashing the word FAKE intermittently on one frame. The caveat being if they completely abandon the laws of physics and provide a real reason for it (ie The Matrix) then I'm ok with it.

Who has distribution rights in the US for home video release?? I saw both the Weinstein Symbol and the Lionsgate Symbol when the film started. I'm hoping it's Lionsgate who has Blu/DVD rights so that we might actually see a day and date from them. I loved the movie and really want to hear a 7.1 PCM or DTS-HD track

no offense but it's no different or "realistic" than the "combat" that Americans seem to love. 2 guys duke it out with fists flying and take 20 hits apiece. In all honesty 99.9% of movie fights would be out within 10 seconds with the blows given. 2 blows and the guy is out.

Wuxia films are based on Chinese Opera that's been going on for hundreds or thousands of years. The ability to fly is associated with extreme harmony within ones self and one's environment. Think of it as an 8th degree zen blackbelt, and they've been doing "wire fu" for a hell of a lot longer than there have been movies

And yes. When you have 2 hardcore trained fighters, it's more like a Samurai battle than a movie fight. It's over in seconds. Whoever manages to land the first blow or 2 usually ends it

Discovery channel had a show called something like the arts of fighting, it shows that martial artist generate their power from their stomach to deliver deadly blows, in the ancient chinese martial arts world supposely they can generate much more power that they can push off object in water, tree branches to leapto the other, they can control their power with extreme accuracy, some of that you can see a little now like when they punch 2 bricks but somehow they generate their power to brake only the second brick and not the one in contact with the fist. Losts of novel and fiction with story like that goes on for years and so it is just normal to them, but to us, we say WTF.

Here's the problem, you're lumping defying the laws of physics and extending a fight into the same category. Sure, when two professionals duke it out it may only last a matter of seconds, but what does that have to do with flying? I didn't say I expect 100% realistic combat, I said watching combatants fly around magically is akin to having FAKE plastered across the screen every 30 seconds. It's not the same thing, and the argument that I'm just a typical American that wants 'combat' is a lame and lackluster defense (indicating that you may not really have one). If it's part of their culture then fine, I'm not crying fowl, just saying that I prefer their movies when they don't use that particular style.

my whole point is that it's no more fake than any other movie combat. I have been practicing Martial arts for over 10 years so any fight on a movie is pretty much laughably fake, no matter how you swing it. That was my point. One is just as fake as the other. And yes it IS the same thing. You see a guy flying across the screen you say fake. I see a guy take 2 round kicks to the face and a hook kick and come up swinging, I burst out laughing. Same thing. Saying that the flying makes it look ultra fake is just your opinion. I was stating that if it's a movie fight it's already laughably fake.

So the presentation of opinion on a forum is O.K. so long as it is your opinion? Gotcha, hey, you're a certifiable internet martial arts expert, so your opinion is fact and mine is subjective. I'd love to run out and get a forum certified degree in Krav Maga, but I got enough on my plate. If only I had a degree in astrophysics or something with an emphases on gravity, space-time, etc. Hell, if I had that I might be able to compete, and that opinion that two people flying in opposition to F=(G*m1*m2)/(r*r) (at least until you get to the subatomic scale) is more irritatingly fake than martial arts experts successfully blocking blows over an extended period of time might mean something.

Hooah for the internet.

Ok you have law of physics vs the law of odds. How many explosions and cars can American action stars jump away or out of without dying or getting severely injured? How many bullets can you dodge while shooting all the enemies? Flying is purely fantasy and everyone knows it. Asian movies do not try to make you think people can actually fly. If anything American movies are more at fault as trying to play off the above things more realistically.

Ultimately just relax these movies are all for people to enjoy not to be offended because people can not fly or float . If you are not into martial arts flicks than that's fine but don't rip on them for stupid reasons.
