Default Blu-ray to grow exponentially over next 6-9 months

That's the belief of the Blu-ray Disc Association.

With Sony's Playstation 3 successfully introduced into the European market, the BDA believes that all the main cornerstones are in place, and the next 6-9 months will see an exponential growth in Blu-ray adoption.

Frank Simonis, Chairman of the BDA’s
European Promotions Committee, said that, “PS3 is a real catalyst for the BD format in Europe too, with almost 800,000 units
sold already, and block buster movies are key."

Though it's too early to present an accurate picture of sales trends in Europe, Simonis believes that Blu-ray will eclipse HD DVD "very soon".

He also said that he expected many independent studios and distributors to adopt Blu-ray from the autumn.

I've got goosebumps!

It'd help if they got as many trailers for upcoming Blu-ray releases onto the various region PlayStation Store's as possible. Remind people what they can buy!

On TV aswell.. when say Play advertise a new DVD release we should get a "Also avalible on Blu-Ray" atleast!
A big step will be places like Woolowrths, Tesco, Sainsburys ECT stocking now.

Yeah I was a bit disappointed to see various Casino Royale ads on UK tv with only the DVD version mentioned and boxart shown. Perhaps it was too soon but now with the 800,000 player (and quickly growing) install base I'm expecting to see Blu-ray highlighted.

You know, it's made me mad that not all of the Night at the Musuem commercials show the Blu-ray icon, and I haven't heard it say, "also available on Blu-ray," it just says it will be on DVD.
