Obviously you are convinced already unless it was an impulse buy. There is plenty of information in the forum to not convince but to demonstrate/show you the path Blu-ray is on. By showing you the path that Blu-ray is on, you will see where HD DVD is. I will get you started.
Blu-ray gives you access to 87.5% of the major movie studios of which 5 are exclusive to Blu-ray. At 48Mbps, Blu-ray has a much higher throughtput (bandwidth) for video and audio than HD DVD's 30MBps. That can translate into the best audio available w/ the best image quality. BD current max. disc size is 50GB. HD DVD's current max. is 30GB. This translates into longer movies like Lord of the Rings Extended Ed. titles fitting on one disc while still giving you the best in audio and video quality. This also allows for more HD extras to be placed on future titles. HD DVD can not accomplish this w/o extreme sacrifices to AQ, PQ or both. BDs are $4 to $5 cheaper on average per title than HD DVD. On PS3...to be continued |

Since I am typing this on my PS3, I'm limited to a certain amount of characters.
Getting back to educating you on Blu-ray... So far this year Blu-ray is responsible for 70% of all HD disc sales to date. Despite HD DVD launching 2 months ahead of Blu-ray, Blu-ray had control of the SI (since inception) sales numbers since mid-Feb. (leading by 1,000 disc sales at that time). In March that lead increased. As of the end of March, the lead had increased to over 135,000 disc sales and still growing. There are only less than 300,000 (being generous) HD DVD movie playing devices around worldwide. There are over 3.2 million Blu-ray movie playing devices around the world (1.4 million in the US). The only thing Blu-ray needs to wrap this war up is Universal to be a neutral studio. HD DVD needs several of Blu-ray's exclusive studios and disc sales. I have given you the facts. From this point, I believe you can draw your own conclusions. Welcome to the deep Blu! |

I don't think it's a case of winning or not, Blu-ray is a great form of data storage. It stores massive amounts of data which it can transfer quickly, has huge studio support and sells well (already).
HD-DVD is slightly behind in data quantities but still perfoms well. Whether either will win or not doesn't detract from each medium. At the end of the day Blu-ray and HD-DVD will be around for many years before one or the other peters out - remember that VHS has only stopped in the last couple of years and it was introduced in 1977. Just relax, enjoy the quality, buy Blu-ray films and don't worry. ![]() |

I'd also like to add that "wasting money" is only a point of view...
if you don't watch movies that much....then, yeah... but as for the format...it's in the lead with a strong hold that needs to get stronger so HD-DVD REALLY falls behind....they are behind, but they could still rally some sales and right now is where BD can widen the gap...... |
