Talking Ha Ha Ha Ha!!!!!!

Absolutely hilarious news, seems HD-DVD gets no-name $300 players and blu-ray gets $300 pioneer blu-ray players.

I almost wet myself laughin when i came accross this story cause HD-DUDders were talking of how wal-marts plan to sell HD-DVD players at $300 just ended the format war, LMAOROFL.

Absolutely hilarious news this, lemme go post it on AVS and watch those HD-DUDders spread FUD bout this.

LOL, heres the link aswell so you can have a look and laugh your head off even more:

Hey, there PC drives but it sure is a chance $300 stand alone blu-ray players are well on their way as well.

Where's the link?
A $300 BD player? Where!?

I hope you're not referring to the new $299 Pioneer PC drive...

Update: Pull back the reigns HD DVD fanboys, Akihabara now says that they've made a "huge mistake" with their translation: the original source called it "è—å…‰ HD DVD and è—å…‰ means Blu-RAY." In other words, Blu-ray HD DVD. Huh? Word to the wise: since both formats use blue lasers, it's best to wait for an English press release before either camp celebrates.

Read the UPDATE! Its a Blu-ray player!

I want BD to keep applying their boot to HD-DVD's neck....

it seems BD has come strong and then gets complacent....and then gets a 2nd wind.....and then lets up again...

hopefully things start snowballing with the recent announcements...

No it's not. Nothing's confirmed yet.

You're getting ahead of yourself. I think most folks in this thread are getting ahead of themselves a bit.

Have they translated that thing yet? I don't think anyone yet knows for SURE if that WalMart thing is BD or HD-DVD.

Considering the other links of blatant MS and WalMart crossover, I have this sinking feeling it's going to be a plus for HD-DVD on that particular story. We'll see...

I agree Don, it seems consistent pressure is needed in order to break away from HD DVD.

I think those WalMart links and everything else strongly indicate this as a big HD-DVD plus. I don't see any way around it.

I will be very pleasantly shocked if this ends up anything else but a big HD-DVD plus of sorts.

Look at those earlier links again with the obvious WalMart in bed with MS stuff.

Whatever this thing is, Blu-ray can do without it, but hd dvd needs it desperately. So i hope it never actually appears...
And if its Blu-ray then the better.

Here's the thing:

All the zealots, MS employees, and what not have been harping for the last two years now about how: "Joe Six Pack and Cheap Chinese Players are going to carry HD-DVD to the quick finish line." <- That's a direct quote that I'm sure we've all seen a thousand times by now.

So this is the next phase finally showing up. It fits HD-DVD all the way because they don't have anything else to go to. All the big dogs are with Blu-Ray already.

And it certainly remains to be seen whether or not many people will give a crap about these pieces of junk when/if they show up on WalMart and other cheapie store shelves in a year or so.

The enthusiasts wouldn't come within 10 miles of the junk, and rightfully so.

And I've said since day one: Any CE venture that comes out of the gate hoping on Joe Six Pack? It's a kiss of death of everytime.

I'm not convinced by a longshot that a good number of people are going to care about these things.

Guess what's going to be happening in the year or so between now and when these POS hit the streets?

Blu-Ray's exclusive studios will have cranked out that much more content.

So let them go to the electronics' gutter and back alleys and bring in the no-name, cheap @#$% Chinese stuff. That's their last card to play and everyone knows it.

No need for panic, but let's be realistic here.

yeah...I skimmed the article and saw the picture...

but I wasn't too enamored with the news because with the high prices of everything else that is BD (except the PS3)...a $300 drive just sounds odd to me..

HD-DVD can have their drive....because people that might buy a HD-DVD player know about blu-ray because of the PS3.....this makes it almost common-talk...almost....not for another year I think...

people will see what a mess the title situation is when they go to buy a movie....

sales rep: "we offer 5 free titles with our HD-DVD player"

customer: "REALLY?...::goes to peruse the HD-DVD movie selection::..."

...yeah...I don't have to say any more...

The player only represents a small cost of total cost for HD video.

So if they are betting on "Joe Six Pack" spending small dollars to get a cheap player, what is going to happen when he realizes that he needs to upgrade his tv, get a new receiver, etc?

^ is what could hurt HD overall...and another reason why HD DVD must die - end the confusion. If manufacturers take a look a the big picture, the quicker the BR vs HD DVD thing ends, the quicker they sell newer up to date gear.....

either that or they are getting newer models in soon...and they want to clear out warehouse space before they start buying more of a weak format...

The problem I have with that thinking is lets say J6P is attracted to a cheap Chinese hd dvd player.

What is he gonna do when he sees that of this list (or next year's list) he can only buy 4 movies but can't buy 11? What is he gonna tell his family and friends? He might be a J6P but he can't be obtuse. He'll say: Hell for that I stay with my $50 DVD!

The condescending argument from them was and is: "J6P doesn't carry about anything else but price and we'll even use their own ignorance against them/misinformation."

I've seen that almost word for word out in the open before, bragged about even. It's a very poorly kept secret. I know others have seen that as well.

You bring the content argument to the table and I think it's more realistic.

But if you have stores like WalMart blatantly getting in the sack with MS, then all they're going to see is these crappy Chinese POS a year from now and HD-DVD discs. They will be denied the choice of BD in these stores.

That's the message I'm getting from all of this and especially those MS-WalMart links.

This is why I strongly encourage the BDA to finally stop fighting with restraint, take the gloves off, and start fighting this "war" with the CE equivalence of "brutality."
