Default Great movies that are Historically inaccurate

I saw this link about historical inaccuracies in movies..really interesting...Amazing how movie writers alter history!! Figured i'd share. .. If you know of any other movies not listed, share name of the movie and how it is inaccurate!!...i know alot of people find it fascinating to know the actual history vs the movie they watched on the story/event

Malcolm X, Spike Lee's axe to grind. Most overrated filmmaker in Hollywood.

Titanic, 300, Gladiator, Braveheart, The Other Bolyne Girl, The Patriot, Pearl Harbor. Name a historical movie, it is inaccurate.

Some are better than others, but it is damned near impossible to make a 100% accurate regarding history.

Ice Age 3. Allegedly.
(unless you're a creationist)

Didn't that Enigma Code movie make the Americans out to be the code breakers, when in reality it was the Brits?

There must be scores of historically inaccurate movies. For example, everyone knows digital watches weren't around during Ben-Hur's time.

I would be much easier to name movies that ARE accurate. Much less of them.

Like..........say....................I don't know..............LOTR??

All history is interpretation. I don't believe there ever can be a hundred percent historical accurate film. Films can come close to accuratly portraying what it must of been like in a certain historical event, such as being a grunt in Vietnam(Platoon, Black Hawk Down) or a biography such as "Elizabeth" or the "Madness of King George", "The Name of the Rose" with Sean Connery I think is fairly good at religion and the Inquisition in early modern Europe. United 93 would also come close as a modern historical picture, but film is entertainment so some license with historical accuracy may be taken to make a film bolder and bigger than the truth allows.

Historically accurate film = documentary.
Movie = entertainment.

Any "historical" movie touched by the dead directorial hand of Mel Gibson.

Oops!!! My mistake... thread is titled: Great movies that are Historically inaccurate. None of Mel Gibsons come into that category

Last edited by Kirsty_Mc; 04-12-2008 at 12:40 AM. Reason: Included Mel Gibsons movies in a thread about Great movies!!! Silly Me!!!

I agree on one point, I wouldn't consider any of Mel Gibson's movies in "Great movie" category...
