Default Scarface Reboot (2015)

From Deadline:
Quote:
David Yates In Final Talks For ‘Scarface’ Reboot
By Nikki Finke

“Universal has been through a couple of drafts and now is very high on the current draft. The first stop is the director. This is before any conversations on talent or timing.”

I’ve learned that the studio is in final talks with British director David Yates who directed the final four films in the Harry Potter film series... On Scarface, he will be tasked with updating the crime saga so it lives up to the Ben Hecht/Howard Hawks/Paul Muni and Oliver Stone/Brian De Palma/Al Pacino classics since both became part of popular culture.

This is not a remake or sequel but a reboot of a crime kingpin who through a ruthless campaign of ambition goes in hot pursuit of his American Dream – whatever that is in this decade. Ethnicity and geography were important in the first two versions so expect the same here. Former Universal head Marc Shmuger and his Global Produce banner is producing along with Martin Bregman who produced the Pacino version.

This should be interesting...

Well since the Scarface we are familiar with is a retelling (reboot) in itself, it would be interesting to see what the new version would be.

Heck this could be retold again and again in the future, right up there with Shakespeare's work.

Why call it a "reboot?" Do they plan on making this a series of films? It wasn't a series to begin with. I don't think anybody really knows what "reboot" means anymore. This is clearly a remake, regardless of what they say.

In any case, I'm willing to give it a shot, but like every other remake/reboot that's come out, I'm left wondering what the point is (beyond making money, of course).

The original is a classic! If the ends being what what they did with the remake to Psycho (Why Hollywood?) with Vince Vaughn and Anne Heche where it is nothing than a shot for shot remake than I want no part of it.

However, if they are doing this and take what was done with the original and add their own twist on the story and try to make it even better (Is that even possible?) than I will give this movie a fair shot.

I actually thought the original was quite boring. I think the 1983 version is perfect, but who knows, maybe the next one will be even better!
[Show spoiler]probably not, though

Never saw the original, but the 1983 supposed classic is a boring PoS. Only the very end was any good.

Aren't most studio films financed with the possibility of a franchise?

I haven't watched the De Palma version in a fair few years. However it is rather long and could probably do with some tighter editing.

I wouldnt say the '83 film was boring but watching it now does reveal how cheesey and silly it is. Its a fun movie but it is NOT to be taken seriously whatsoever.

As for this remake? Un. Focking. Believeable. But then again, they remake everything now so its not surprising after all.

Im sure Ryan Gosling will be in it...hes the official "over exposed hottie" right now.

You never know, maybe this remake will be as fun as the first remake.

I don't know what else to say but it better be good. Now all I can think of is who is going to take the role of Tony Montana. Elian Gonzales?
