That Studio Canal The Third Man cover makes a lot more sense now.

Well, maybe not a lot more...

  • Original Theatrical Trailer
I'm not sure I like the sound of that. I don't know anything about the movie, nor what the footage shows, but it doesn't show piles of dead bodies or anything, does it? I can't handle real-life imagery like that, no matter how long ago it may have been.

As for the film, should I look into it if I'm looking for great cinematography?

That was based on a French poster as well.

There are very brief glimpses of the concentration camp, most without any people shown in it (like empty chambers). There is a shot that lasts for about 2 seconds that shows piles of bodies though. It's being shown to someone on a film projector so it's not full screen or anything.

This movie isn't known for its cinematography or anything. It's shot in a small town, like Anytown USA and so there's not much opportunity for great cinematography.

You can check out the public domain version for yourself if you'd like. The concentration camp footage happens around 59:30

Thank you very much for the help. I appreciate it I might as well try the public domain version, as long as it really is public domain

Is the 59:30 part the bodies? Or the chambers? Or does it all happen at the same time?

Both. The scenes are short, but disturbing (especially considering the fact that it's real).

Both the bodies and the rest of the concentration camp footage are at the 59:30 mark. It's very short.

And it is a well-made film? I definitely shouldn't dismiss it because of something that lasts only a few seconds.

It is a superb film with brilliant performances by Robinson and Welles. The camp footage is extremely brief and not sensationalistic in presentation.

yep, its a top drawer Orson Welles film, right up there with Citizen Kane, Mr, Arkadin, Touch of Evil, and The Third Man (not a film directed by Welles, but he is one of the main stars of the film)

DVDBeaver have their review up. Looks like 4k compared to the other release, lol.

Wow, looks great. After watching the public domain version a few times, I imagine seeing this release in motion would feel like seeing it for the very first time. Some of the shots look a little brighter than I'm used to, but other than that, it looks pretty great. The extras also sound excellent.

Holy cow. The screenshots on the DVDBeaver review look good. I'm glad that I did not buy the previous Blu-ray when I saw it at a used store recently.
