Default WARNING: Bootlegged Tales From The Crypt dvds

I just wanted to give everyone here a heads up. I recently purchased a complete set of Tales from the Crypt off ebay only to receive the set and almost instantly know tell they are fakes.

Here is the completed listing:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/281142684698...84.m1497.l2649

Ive already contacted the seller and he fed me some BS. So Im having to file a claim to get my money back.

Heres some comparisons of the discs:
Fakes:
Season 6 Disc 1:
Season 6 Disc 3:

Here are the actual retail discs
Season 6 Disc 1:
Season 6 Disc 3:

I have more comparison pics to upload once I get home.

That's what bad thing about buying online. If you buy from a third party, it's easy to get bootlegs. I have received many bootlegs over time, some of which I new were bootlegs. That's why I only shop from Amazon direct. Very seldom do I order from third party sellers. However, I've heard the bootlegs have been so good, Amazon ended up selling bootlegs of Batman: The Animated Series boxset. Something about people sending them to Amazon, and Amazon re-selling them for the third party seller... Very risky.

Good luck with your claim.

Unfortunately this is my first time buying DVDs off ebay and my last. I have purchased Blu-rays before but have never had any issue. After trying to communicate with the seller he has stopped responding after my first message. So I had to escalate the claim. :/

If you looked at his negative feedback you'd see there's been people that have complained about not receiving official products. Combine that with the fact that they're selling multiples of complete sets for a good price, and it's all very likely that it would be a bootleg.

It definitely should. Ebay tends to side with buyers from what I've seen.

I guess the only difference I'm seeing is the print job quality. Were they packaged professionally?

I ask because I've experienced similar differences before buying TV box sets that were manufactured in Canada. They seemed legit, but overall the quality just looked sloppy. They looked far too professional to be bootlegs, but the printing on the discs was poor and there were some small differences in the quality of the cover art. The series that I'm thinking of now is Supernatural.

Phew. Everything is just so much more complicated now. Can I go back to renting Tales from the Crypt on VHS?

I've only bought a handfull of discs on eBay. I'd honestly rather pay a couple more bucks for the confirmation of a true disc. I've had a few fake discs even from sellers with 100%. Many people do not know (or care) and just want the discs. You know the biggest population of people buying are moms/dads and grandmas/grandpas often for their kids/grandkids.

HI,

It does appear going from the negative feedback on eBay, that this particular seller does seem to sell an awful lot of "less-than original" items.

Alas, eBay seems to be filled with people who don't care if they screw you over, as long as they get your money! And the fact you have to use PayPal, which eBay owns and makes profits from, is another reason why I only use eBay sporadically.

I hope Cholkavich gets their money back in full. Best way, is to threaten legal action against the seller and eBay for allowing a known seller to continue to send out known bootlegged items. eBay will soon give you your money back, but they almost certainly won't penalise the bootlegger! More's the pity.

Those of you who think that this isn't a problem with Blu-Rays as well might be in for a shock.

There are bootleg Blu-Rays coming from Russia, China, and some smaller European countries. There's one guy on Ebay that lives in some small Euro country who sells a crapload of Metallica's Blu-Ray concerts (Mexico, France, Korea (!)) for $24.99 each. He's literally sold bunches of them at that price.

FYI, whenever you see a whole collection of DVD series in one set for a good price, it's most likely a bootleg. Remember the old saying--If it looks too good to be good, it probably is.

This is why I'm glad I purchased these seasons from retailers instead of third party sellers.

Definitely makes one leery. I buy off of ebay, but am pretty cautious and ask a lot of questions if I have any.

Hope it gets resolved for you! Also, I hope the seller gets in trouble.

So it looks like nothing was done aside from ebay paying my return shipping on the dvds. The guy is still selling bootlegs and eBay did nothing about it. Not much of a surprise

Im complaining because I paid money for the real thing, not obvious cheaply made bootlegs. They are not imports, the packaging and printing job was poorly done. If you're happy with paying for bootlegs, be my guest.

Just bought season 5 & 6 from a third party seller on amazon, is there a definitive way to confirm these are real or bogus from the info printed on the disc?

all the discs have 'the complete sixth season' printed around the ring on the reverse but the artwork is smooth not grainy like my other seasons.

on season six disc one the file size is 4.61 gb, watching the episodes its hard to tell as they seem pretty low res like the other sets I have.

I have seasons 1,2,3,4 & 7 store bought and they all have different packaging, three of them have two slimline cases, one is a thin digipak, one a fat digipack. The ones I am unsure just bought of have a regular DVD case with swing tray for three discs.
