THE OFFICIAL THREAD: Fight for Blu-ray May 27th, buy an Extra Disc Day

Our April 21st buying day, planned in conjunction with PS3 owners at PS3forums.com and the official USA Playstation forums was a great success. Six titles were put in to the top 100 rankings at Amazon.com.

The planned buying day succeeded in increasing awareness of the winning high definition format: Blu-ray disc. The day also succeeded in raising awareness of the #1 place to discuss high definition optical media on the web, Blu-ray.com

The PS3 owners are at it again, planning another mass buying day on May 27th.

Please do not hold off on regular orders. May 27th is a day to buy extra discs, ones that you might have missed otherwise. It is a day to show support for Blu-ray by purchasing movies you have always wanted but never got around to picking up.

The good thing about a planned Blu-ray buy is that it won't slip off so embarrassingly like the HD DVD one as Blu-ray already stays higher.

How many more buys do we need...this is getting totally ridiculous...it makes us blue ray owners look desperate...hd dvd is getting their butts spanked by Blu ray big time. I find this buy day unnecessary so I won't be in it. Just buy your movies when you want to...we don't need this to prove anything!

I don't get it... Show your support by buying a disc you wouldn't other wise have bought? Am I stupid? I show support by buying good movies on a good medium. I whole heartedly hope BD wins, but unless they start putting out movies I want, don't go expecting me to buy GIJane, Norbit, some other steaming log "just to show support". Sony lost the first war (beta vs. VHS) because VHS had better selection (even though beta was supposed to be superior). If they don't put out more"gotta have" movies soon, they DESERVE to lose...again.

I'll repeat - I want BD to win. But I'll be damned if I'm gonna spend hard earned money on uninspired crap, and that would include doggie Hershey squirts like Basic Instinks 2.

Wow, um, yeah think you misinterpreted the OP a bit. It is not saying buy a movie you don't want, but suggests picking up a title that you want that you haven't had a chance to yet.

For instance maybe someone is a big Terminator and Arnold fan, but they already own the regular DVDs. Well, May 27th would be a great day to upgrade to the superior Blu-ray versions.

If you for personal reasons don't want to participate then just don't. There are plenty of people who do as you can see by the size of the growing list.

There is no pressure to do this if you don't want to, and there is no reason to become angry. It is simply a day for movie lovers and Blu-ray owners to come together in support of their hobby.

Norbit was a very successful comedy. You might surprise yourself if you bought this as your extra disc. Well, not if your sense of humor sucks.

I don't know about you, but I want this war to be over as quickly as possible. I don't want this to take it's normal course. If you don't want this thing to drag on for years, I would suggest you get off your ... and put a little more effort into making retailers clear out HD DVD's shelf space for Blu-ray titles! Some people just don't get it!

Anyway, I won't buy my main May 22 titles from Amazon, but I will buy my extra disc from them. I get the titles I really want from B&M stores (not Wal-Mart). Buy from B&M stores as well. They will help us squeeze HD DVD titles into a smaller and smaller space. B&M retailers are the key to blowing the doors off this format war. They all count in the Nielsen numbers anyway.

For me - these are either really great movies , or ones that were so well shot that I can't wait to see them in Hi-Def.
Unfortunately over 2/3 of my collection is in storage, so these are just a fraction of the DVD's in front of me.

For me, only two of my many favorite movies have come to BD (Res Dogs and Usual Suspects). Ok, A Christmas Story is out, but I've yet to find it in stock anywhere (in a store, not amazon). My "Support" is just sitting here...in my wallet...waiting...
