I did use them but was going to do a full home theater setup including mounting the 4 surround speakers. There wsa a miscommunication and I ended up with a basic theater setup which was basically hooking the receiver and cable box to the tv, turning it on, and doing a couple of tests.
In all honesty, I could have done it but really wanted them to mount the speakers. I did it myself, and think I did a "smarter" job of how they were going to run all the wires. Just make sure you know what you're getting. The full install costs a lot more so if you're really new to home theater and want a pro to do it, I would go for it. Keep in mind, calibration costs even more so if they hook up and test the equipment and it looks like crap, it's only because you need to calibrate the tv. I've rambled enough... |

I personally wouldn't pay anyone to hook up my stuff. My dad had that done and when I visited I noticed a lot of stuff hooked up wrong. The first thing I did was unplug everything and start from scratch. Didn't take long and it was finally done correctly. It's not very hard to do. I think it's better to do it yourself because then you will know exactly how it's done. Think of the money you will save.

I'm sure the Geek Squad would do a great job. However, you might be able to do the installation yourself and save a bundle.

It's kind of like Johnny Dangerously, I used Best Buy to install my equipment once... ONCE. And to be honest will never do it again. When the guys finally showed up, 5 hours late, they were bumbling around like they didn't give a crap that they were in my home, dropped a ladder and put a hole in the drywall (4 days after we closed on the house, which was completed just a week before) and hooked most of everything up wrong. I ended up calling the store and the 1 800 number provided was refunded the price of the installation and the repair to the wall. Worst in home service experiance I've ever had. IMO stay far far away. There has got to be alternatives to BB installation in your area.

As an ex-Best Buy/Magnolia installer, the best advice that I can give is to talk to the installer before you purchase an installation. Ask questions about what they do, you'll get a feel for how competent the installer is.
Most installations are not overly difficult, but again, you're watching someone who (presumably) knows what they are doing and has done it hundreds and hundreds of times. If you're shy about crawling around the attic (especially in the heat), drilling down into walls, hanging a $2000 TV on the wall, etc. then don't kid yourself. It's easy to get in over your head, plus there are a variety of settings for your TV, DVD/BLuray, PS3, cable/satellite box that need to be configured for optimum quality, this is where asking the installer questions before hand comes in handy. It shouldn't be like the Dish Network guy who runs wires out of a bare hole in the wall, plugs your HD box in with composite cables, bypasses your surround sound, and leaves. There are plenty of extremely competent installers working for Best Buy, I assure you, I've met tons at corporate training events. There are also newbies just like anywhere else. If all else fails, and you live in the northwest Arkansas area, give me a PM. ![]() Oh yes, and double check with the installer about any TV/speaker brackets, wiring, and installation package purchased. If I had a nickel for everytime I had to run back to the store and keep a customer waiting for an hour and a half because of improper equipment, I'd be a rich rich man. Unless they are going to cut into your walls and run cables behind the scenes, you don't need them at all.
Any receiver you buy will have highly detailed instrustions (with visuals) on how to hook up everything. And the back of your receiver is also going to be highly mapped out with labels and color coated jacks. |

Ultimate Electronics was the company I purchased and had install my home theater system.
I see alot of people telling you to save money and do it yourself. Yeah you may save money, but unless you REALLY know what you are doing you may sprout a couple gray hairs and pop a brain blood vessel or two. The manual for my Denon AVR 2807 reciever was not written with the average consumer in mind. This things looked like engineer charts on every page. You can check out the official thread on AVSForum.com for your reciever or all your equipment and browse through thousands of posts about the incredible amounts of ass-pain & time people endure trying to hook their systems up. So yes, it saves money to do it yourself, but it won't save you time or wanting to throw your reciever/TV out the window if those instructions don't turn out to be as simple as you thought. just my two cents. |

I used them for mounting my 4 surrounds and that was it. My attic is difficult to get around in and where two of the speakers are mounted it was really tricky to drop down the speaker wire. I only did it because I didn't want the hassle.

The installers in my area are really awesome so I guess this store is lucky. Even when they are here between jobs they are talking about the jobs and better ways to do certain things. Very passionate which says a lot, considering how tired they must be of cabling.

Any company that actively keeps GeekSquad in their stores will not be hired by me to do any form of technical work.. Save money because you probably know more by reading the manual then they do.. Plus it'll save you a lot of money
