Australia Hammer Horror Releases - Official Discussion

It looks like Australia may be getting some exclusive, for the time being, Hammer horror films. These were found on ezydvd.

Frankenstein Created Woman:

http://www.ezydvd.com.au/blu-ray/ham...man/dp/6143776

Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell:

http://www.ezydvd.com.au/blu-ray/ham...ell/dp/6143777

The Quatermass Xperiment+Quatermass 2:

http://www.ezydvd.com.au/blu-ray/ham...s-2/dp/6143775

From their listings it is hard to tell who is releasing them and their specs, but it looks as though Australia will be getting the releases that Studio Canal postponed in the UK. However, given that I am stuck with the very lackluster Australian Shock Media The Vampire Lovers disc, I'd like to know more about these releases before I pull the trigger.

Yep. These have been mentioned before. There are actually four being released. The Witches is also out October 2.

Three have already been released from what I recall: The Devil Rides Out, The Mummy's Shroud and Rasputin - The Mad Monk.

They are released by Shock Entertainment.

There's also an 11 film set scheduled for November 20 which is reportedly a JB Hi-Fi exclusive according to Shock's listing but other retailers have it listed for pre-order including EzyDVD.

There's currently seven out, so you can also include: The Reptile, Plague of Zombies, Quatermass & the Pit & Dracula: Prince of Darkness.

As they have their own thread now, here are the covers for the upcoming Hammer films in October:

Thanks. Sorry I forgot to include The Witches. I was too focused on what hadn't been announced in the UK. It's odd that Studio Canal only seems to be releasing The Witches in the UK. I believe all these other titles were planned for release there at one time but no longer, presumably due to poor sales.

I would imagine these releases should be comparable to the would be Studio Canal versions and shouldn't be as shoddy as The Vampire Lovers.

Is there a release date for Captain Kronos? I don't see that one listed on ezydvd.

This can't be right. An eleven film set (12 discs) for $59.97. I pre-ordered one, and with the shipping it is $66 to the U.S. (even less if the U.S. dollar doesn't dip). I already have four of these films from the U.K. editions, but this is still a great deal.

I am pretty sure that set is going to end up being JB exclusive...

Fantastic time to be a Hammer Horror Fan locally.

ScreenPop seem to be Shock's new DVD/Blu Ray label. They are releasing a bunch of great horror and cult titles in the coming months (The Burning, Lucio Fulci's The Beyond, Maniac etc)

As of this moment, my pre-order for the box set is still in their system. Holding out hope that they follow through with the pre-order...but don't see it happening.

Why hasn't ezydvd listed Captain Kronos yet? That's not an exclusive too, is it?

I'm not sure it's a great time to be a Hammer fan as far as blu ray releases go. There's been a number of botched releases...THE CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN which looks terrible (the US DVD looks a lot better), RASPUTIN:THE MAD MONK has a wonky audio track and THE BRIDES OF DRACULA is in the wrong aspect ratio with info cropped from the bottom of the picture. And the less said about Shock's release of THE VAMPIRE LOVERS the better.

Of those three, The Devil Rides Out. Yes it's had a bit of sfx tinkering but as a total Hammer fanboy (see username ) I was surprised with how well it was done.

To my surprise, I received a shipping notification today from Ezydvd for Frankenstein Created Woman and The Quatermass Xperiment+Quatermass 2.

I'm not sure why Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell wasn't included. Ezydvd still doesn't have a listing for Captain Kronos. Can anyone recommend a site that has this disc that I can import it to the US from?
