I'm sure Hollywood couldn't resist the Dynamic Duo of Actor/Director Ben Affleck and Producer George Clooney's take on history. Argo became a lock once the new Batman was overlooked in the Director's Category. But by the end of Oscar night, Argo's three wins seemed slim. I would have easily chosen Ang Lee's "Life of Pi' or Benh Zehtlin's remarkable debut film "Beast of the Southern Wild". However, I thankful that "Les Miserables" didn't win. The most miserable 2 1/2 hours of my life.

Just saw this for the first time recentely as well and while it was a very good movie and worthy of a nomination I would have gone with Life of Pi or Django Unchained.
Haven't seen the other nominees so there could be more I would have taken ahead of it as well lol. |

The best film of 2012 was Killing Them Softly, so no.
The best film nominated for Best Picture was Django Unchained, so no. |

In answer to the question, no:
It was good, but better than Lincoln? Well, that would depend on WHO was casting the votes. Y'see, there's kind of a perception problem depending on who was watching the movie: - To director/star Ben Affleck, it was a movie about a CIA agent using one last desperate chance to save the people depending on him. - To most of the mainstream audience, it was a Ben Affleck and John Goodman movie about an unlikely duo teaming up for a real-life historical con job. - And to most of the Hollywood community, particularly the producers, voting on Best Picture....it was an Alan Arkin movie about How Hi-Roller Hollywood-Shark Producers Saved the World. ...You could kind of GUESS where the votes were going to head by that point. ![]() |
