I had to show the girl working at Best Buy the blu-ray version on their website. For some reason, the normal search wouldn't show it so she kept insisting they didn't have it on blu-ray. Judging by your posts, you have:

- US PS3 (Region A): I guess to test out if a movie is Region Free is to buy a Region B PS3...highly unlikely.

- Work at BestBuy: Might require you to pop the disc in those Region Free BD Players.

If its too much of a hassle, dont bother. I might just end up importing to test it out!

Best Buy has region free BD players? No way. I don't think any region free BD players have been manufactured.

How does this compare with Celine Dion concert BD. The concert itself and then PQ and AQ.

It looks great, though Shakira's concert looks better (and is more entertaining).
Warning though, the case says it is in 1080i. I can't confirm if this is a typo or legit, as I only have a 720p (1080i max accepted input) lcd.

Hi,

I'm not much of a fan, but my copy is on it's way via Amazon.

I'm hooked on these concerts of people I'd NEVER listen to but put out great Blu-Rays.

Oh well...this is the price of addiction. The loss of musical credibility.

I own both and like Mariah Carey concert (MCC) a lot better than Celine Dion's (CDC). (Maybe because I like MC's music better.) I think CDC is more like a musical lacking interaction between the performer and audience but MCC is a "vivid concert" with such casual connection between those two. Both PQ/AQ of MCC is slightly better than CDC, IMHO. After watching MCC, I actually compared it with CDC and thought CDC sounds a bit dull.
So... I know MCC will be my all time favorite blu.

Interesting - when I found out this concert was coming to Blu-Ray, I immediately checked to see if Best Buy was going to be selling it and I did a search for "Mariah Carey" and looked at everything they had from her, and I still couldn't find it - but oh well - I ordered it on Amazon - just had to wait a couple of days for it that's all.

was this BR title originally recorded in 5.1 sound?

Compared to the Celine Dion BR disc, the Mariah Carey BR is way louder,
thanks to the high level of audience noise.(which was probably recorded
at such high level intentionally) I felt like I needed earplugs...

I must be getting old.... so are the audience at the concert!

I have to disagree with the other poster on this. While I dislike Celine Dion, her concert was far more entertaining overall (It's Vegas baby), but the PQ and AQ was also a bit better. Mariah Carey looked great for a standard concert, blacks weren't always great at times unlike Celine Dion's concert. And the audio was only slightly slightly better on the Celine Dion disc. This concert still looks and sounds great, I would say 4-4.5/5 for PQ, and 4.5 for AQ.

Technically, no. Think about it for a minute. If your friend repeats your name as he circles you, are you listening from a 5.1 source? Or is it just your brain mapping it out?

Concerts are recorded using individual mics and mixed together on the mixing console. What determines the surround mix is how the sounds are mapped together. Most of the time the crowds are mixed in the rears with some slight bleeding in the fronts. You can CHOOSE to really go against the traditional way of mixing but not many people would like it.

Camcorders that record in Dolby Digital 5.1 basically have mics that have been premapped to follow the POV of the camera. They are still individual mics.
