Leading into the anniversary blu-ray release, IMAX is showing Wizard of Oz in 3D starting Friday Sept. 20, 2013 for one week only. Who's going?

One weekEND only in Oz... It was last weekend, I was working. I wanted to go, just to see this movie on the big screen for once. But I missed it...

Lol... I thought that might have been where the confusion was. It was supposed to start a week later and play for the whole week, but they changed the schedule at the last minute. I would have preferred the week long run, as I would have had time to see it. Oh well, can't complain. I'm sure it'll be back on its 80th or 90th birthday...

I'll definitely be checking this out as any excuse to see Oz on the big screen is a good one for me. There's just something about seeing a film you're familiar with with an audience, especially if that audience is made up of fans like yourself. It gives a fresh angle to the movie and reminds you of why you loved it in the first place.
WB's brought it to theaters for the 60th anniversary in 1999, the 70th anniversary in 2009, and now (a year ahead of) the 75th anniversary. I missed the '99 screening and caught the Fathom Events one in '09. Unfortunately, either the stream or the theater's projector had a skewed color scheme so that all of the greens were a blinding lime color, and pinks looked magenta. I still had a blast at that screening, though, so I can only imagine how exciting seeing it in IMAX 3D will be. This is in my top 5 favorite films, so I'll attend every re-release WB throws our way (likely the 80th next in 2019). |

Saw this last night, and was certainly not blown away by the 3D process. There were occasional glimpses of crystal clear clarity, but for the most part, it looked like an old VHS image up on the big screen. Gonna have to stop going to these expensive old classic showings of films, if they can not do the source material justice.
