although I haven't heard those particular speakers, from the ones I have heard, sony has not impressed me.

What is your total budget?

Do you have a receiver/speakers now? If so, what?

How big is the room?

How much is your system used for Movies/Music/Games

oh.!!!! my bad..... you're trying to upgrade the receiver to get the better audio codecs........

If you have the money for the receiver, you'd be better off putting it towards slowly upgrading the speakers, Front L/R and Center first if possible, then rears, then sub last.

THAT.... is my suggestion, but as far as will you be able to tell a big difference...... hmmm You'll probably notice a difference, but new speakers would be MUCH more noticeable (even on your existing receiver)

How long have you had the set?????

I don't have your speakers, but can say that my old Sony receiver that only did DD5.1 and DTS5.1 comes no where near the same sound I get with my new Onkyo 605 when listening to DTS-HDMA and Dolby TrueHD. (I kept the same speakers I had.) So in my case, yes, there was a noticeable difference.

But, while there was a big difference in what I heard between the two in my set up, I'm not sure if your speakers would give the same difference. I'm guessing yes, but can't say for sure.

I also agree, except I didn't have an Sony Receiver. I had an cheap Panasonic HTiB and then I bought the Onkyo 605 and was going to build around the reciever. I could not believe the difference I heard with changing the receiver, I was more then amazed at the sound. I think my biggest confusion was how well the Panasonic speakers held up and sounded.

I ended up upgrading to the Onkyo 805 and bought some Klipsch speakers. It's all in my Sig. Not the greatest from Klipsch but I love them as if there were the top of the line.
