Default How long does popping corn keep?

How long does popping corn keep?

I was looking through my cupboard and found a half empty plastic bottle of
Orville Redenbacher's Original popping corn.
I didn't even know it was still there.

Is it safe to pop and eat?

They'll keep a very long time, but the popcorn might have a few more duds than usual, and the ones that pop may also look different depending on how much moisture has left the kernel. It's perfectly safe to eat since it's just kernels, with no additives, or preservatives.

Thanks!

Now one last question.
I found some sticks of real butter in the refrigerator, that have been there a loooooong time.
I looked it over and there is no mold and it doesn't smell bad.
Wonder if it's ok to eat?

I'm going to pop a huge batch of stovetop popcorn tonight, in coconut oil.
It would be great if I could use the butter as a topping.

Thumbs up Live dangerously!

If the butter does not smell then go for it,butter smells bad when it is rancid, you will know!. I have the same popcorn as you and if it pops then eat it.A trick to make it pop better is to wipe the inside of the container lid with water, that will add to the moisture content of the dried out popcorn. It's the moisture that makes the kernels pop bigger, there is a limit to the moisture content but I forget what it is at the moment.I eat it on average every 2 days but I use a manual pump oil spray bottle to allow the ground up sea salt to stick.I also use a hot air popper that pops very fast.If you use white popcorn then you will get no husks,I use it but find the odd husk but it still beats regular popcorn which is loaded with husks after popping.Just my personal experience that works for me.Pop on dude or dudette

Thanks for the tip, I'll have to give it a try.

Thumbs up Another helpful hint

Never store popcorn in the fridge,it dries it out.Never store it where it can get warm/hot,that will also dry it out.I store mine in a kitchen cupboard near the floor
I had some left over sea salt that I ground in my coffee grinder and it turned into a really fine salt, almost powder, perfect for the tiny nooks and crannies in popcorn.

Can't eat salt on anything.
Got to watch out for hypertension.

I found that popping the corn in organic virgin cononut oil, makes adding salt and butter totally unnecessary.
Because the taste of the popcorn, is sooooooo delicious without all that unhealthy crap.

I also will sprinkle a powdered hot spice mixture I made onto the popcorn,no salt or I will just sprinkle a little pepper on it.
I use a hot air popper so no oil is used.I do use a hand pump oil sprayer that sprays a fine mist of oil onto popcorn just to get the salt or other flavorings to stick. You can also make your own flavored oil to give the popcorn your own special taste.

I had a hot air popper once and I hated it!
The popcorn tasted like Styrofoam.

So I switched to the stovetop Whirley Pop popper.
Blows away that hot air popper because the popcorn taste soooooo much better!

BTW-Organic virgin coconut oil is good for you.
