Thumbs up Flower PS4 upgraded to full 1080p 60fps "lots of nice AA and extra grass detail"

'dat grass.

Tim Moss is Director of Technology at Santa Monica Studio.

Playing Flower on PS4 today. The return of 60 fps games for this generation is making me ecstatically happy. A pretty magical experience.

For a little backstory, here's some of the tech specs for the PS3 version of Flower.

http://thatgamecompany.com/forum/vie...c58aa75f#p3560
Quote:
As far as native resolution goes, Flower is locked at 30 frames per second and the gameplay is rendered out at 810x1440 2x anti-aliasing. All post processing is done at 810, and then the scene is run through a lens distortion shader onto a buffer of native TV resolution, up to 1080p. Because the lens distortion causes an uneven resolution distribution, when the camera is fully zoomed out the center of the screen is effectively slightly less than 480 and the edges are over 1080. We chose 810p because it was the lowest resolution we could find before the center of the screen started looking too aliased.

Unlike gameplay, the menu and HUD are rendered at native TV resolution, up to 1080p.
The game should look more like the PS3 bullshots on PS4. Maybe better with increased grass density, draw distance, higher quality depth of field, lighting etc.

I wonder if he's hinting that their next big game is targeting 60fps too.

Actually, the elephant in the room isn't Flower. It's Journey.

If Sony Santa Monica can get Flower running at 1920x1080p/60fps, I think chances are very good that we see an upgrade of Journey at 1080p/60 at some point. That's something I think most of us can get behind.

I absolutely love Flower, so it's good news.

Hope there'll be some incentive for the owners of the PS3 version, but even if not I'll probably buy anyway.

I don't see the point to porting this game to the PS4. Should have just made a sequel

TGC's 3 games contract with Sony ended, they are likely to be working on something multiplatform right now.

Wouldn't surprise me if the PS4 port was not done by TGC at all but by a (very) small team over at Santa Monica, and that TGC had nothing to do with it.

More original content and less rehashes of old content = better wins
