Default Before the Devil Knows You're Dead

Just watched this on BD last night because I had heard that it was a very decent Sidney Lumet picture. I gotta say though, this was VERY enjoyable. Definitely not the typical crime drama.

The story was very engrossing, and the performances from the cast (Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Ethan Hawke, Albert Finney and Marisa Tomei) were excellent.

Plus, the PQ and AQ were top notch. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who's up for a change of pace and might not have heard of this one.

This movie is EXACTLY how these thrillers should be made. Its tense, its gritty, and its real. I have always had so much respect for ethan hawke as an actor because he is able to portray paranoia better than anyone else in hollywood. He was the stand out in this movie for me. Phillip Seymour Hoffman was definitely effective but thats no surprise. Strong performances all around.

This movie is a very effective thriller but there is a lot I did not like. I did not mind the way the movie was presented, but the way it was done felt entirely off balance and it got worse later on in the movie as the pace was really uneven. I am glad the transfer is superb as I am sure a lot of people will be picking this one up. I give it a 7/10
