Default Best Sub for ~$300...eep...

Soo....I just blew out my subwoofer this weekend..crap, I know..

I need a new one, but, my wife will seriously shit if I spend more than $300...she might just shit anyways...who knows...

I've been looking at the infamous BIC Acoustech H100, just because so many talk about it....

Are there any others that compare in that price range?

Thanks.

<edit> I really like the down-firing Subs...i prefer that sound as opposed to a front firing one....<edit>

What sub did you have???? Sounds like you need something to handle the abuse, because a sub is usually pretty sturdy.

if you are looking for a new bass I would recommend an Ernie Ball StingRay. They have a nice tone and very fast feel. They are heavy though and I really like my Schecter Studio 5. Nice natural finish and great feel. It plays really fast for a 5-string...

ooohhhh you are asking about a subwoofer...nevermind

I LOVE my Infinity 8" Sub that I got for $275. The bass is deep and punchy, and very powerful for the size. I only have it turned up to 1/4 volume, because any more and it's overpowering!

http://www.amazon.com/Infinity-PS-8-.../dp/B0000AY3K7

EDIT: It's unavailable on Amazon, but I would check your local Circuit City or possibly Best Buy for it.

I have the 10" Yamaha YST-SW315. 250 Watt downfiring.
Using it with my Onkyo 605. Sounds great and you can really feel it.

You should be able to get 1 for $250 or less.

highly recommend the H100, although I'm sure what everyone else is recommending is great too. all i can say is i'm very pleased with my $250 (+$30 shipping). not only does it sound great, but the design is great, nice glossy black finish.

I had the Onkyo SKW-204. It was great up until I watched ID4 with DTS HD-MA....

opps...I didn't think it was set too high...It always kind of rattled anyways when the bass hit really hard...so, maybe I sub-consciously set the bass higher than normal to get rid of it....

ah... The bass shouldn't "rattle" so you were probably distorting it by pushing it too hard. I have a 15" downward firing sub you could have if you were in the Cleveland area.... and would pick it up! I'd trade it to you for a Blu or two

Default this is the best for the money hands down

I got what you need, this online place has insane deals, I'd recommend this 12" JBL

http://www.bestpriceaudiovideo.com/catalog/12/5500/

msrp: 429.00
SALE price: 199.99

I have the same sub in the model before this, had it for 3 years now, and it shakes the house when it's pushed, and I haven't heard a distortion yet! great sub!
HOW AWESOME IS THAT?

Haven't owned one, but I've heard them, I just don't think they're very fast. If I were the OP, I'd try to get an Outlaw Audio kit, but I'm not sure if they're in his budget, but they should be close.

I'm in the process of replacing (not necessarily upgrading) my Subwoofer because it doesn't work with my system that well, despite all my efforts.

Maybe you're right about the not being so fast (honestly not sure what a fast subwoofer means) but for $200 on clearence, I doubt he'll find a better deal, I've been pleased with mine for 3 years, and it's been used shall we say more than average
it competes with my dual 8" towers and has never distorted in all that time (and wow have I turned that sucker up!), so who knows? that's all I can help with

ps, after browsing outlaw's site, the only thing in his range is a little 8" sub, the 12" JBL could blow that away, I"m sure of that anyways

I ordered this from Amazon for $169. Definitely not a bad sub for the money. Best Buy was charging $370 for it.

although physics will get you pretty far, it's not cut-and-dry that 12" sub is always > 8" sub, but for the price, you're probaby right.

very true, actually the 12" I have was the westwood series before the venue, maybe mine was better, all I can say is that I sit back 15' from my sub and when I push it, I can feel the hard hitting stuff in my chest and the upstairs floor shakes, lol that makes me happy (I haven't heard an 8" yet that I could feel in my chest

+1

I only paid $275 shipped for my A2-300 (12" 200w). They've since raised the prices a bit and i got mine with a package discount. But these are the best subs for the price. Check out AVS for reviews.
