America's Most Unlikely Hero

This acclaimed comedy with its serious, compelling theme vividly brings to life one of America's most disturbing memories: the Communist "witch hunts" of the '50s. Woody Allen stars as Howard Prince, a small-time restaurant cashier, part-time bookie and full-time loser who is induced by a writer-friend to "front" for the submission of his TV scripts when he is blacklisted as an alleged subversive. Howard is soon "fronting" for other writers. He becomes a celebrity and is lionized as television's most brilliant and prolific young author. But when popular TV comic Hecky Brown (Zero Mostel) is blacklisted and his career is threatened, he agrees to keep Howard under surveillance. Howard is then summoned to appear before an investigative committee and his stand before them brings about an unexpected dramatic conclusion.

Wow! This announcement made me happier than the Nashville one. The Front IMO is one of the best films of the 70's. Martin Ritt was a great filmmaker.

If you're a fan of Martin Ritt check out a film called THE OUTRAGE. I reviewed it last month on my KOROVA THEATRE blog. It's an American remake of Kurosawa's RASHOMON. With William Shatner.

I watched it last night. The PQ was quite good, great detail and a natural film like appearance. IMO it looked fantastic. The film itself, still as wonderful as I remember it to be.

I just watched this disc and it looks and sounds wonderful. Great transfer. I will have to listen to the commentary in the next few days.

I hope TT can also release from Sony/Columbia Manhattan Murder Mystery.

The Front Blu-ray Review

Really need to pick this one up. Thankfully, it's not one of the higher-profile titles, so it should be a good while before it sells out.

Watched this on my 37 inch tv from over 10 feet away, so naturally it is only a rough PQ analysis, but overall I thought it looked good with great audio. Not a super crisp/detailed image, but I was satisfied as the detail on display was still very good. Didn't see any print damage. Lots of soft shots, but I suspect they are the way it was shot.
